The Maritime first opened its doors to the public in 1955 as a naval museum located on Signal Hill. By 1965, the museum had outgrown the original location and found a new home in the former Supreme Court building in Bastion Square.
Run by the Society of Saanich Peninsula Museums, the museum promotes awareness of local heritage through exhibits, programs, and collections. Its permanent collection consists of over 6000 items.
