About Us:

Crowden welcomes music students of all ages and levels of ability to participate in our after-school, weekend, and summer music lessons and classes.

From group classes in music fundamentals, to private lessons, to advanced ensembles and composition workshops, Crowden teachers help their students to become the best musicians they can be.

Because chamber music is at the heart of a Crowden education, we believe in giving students the tools to develop and express their musical independence, along with the sensitivity to play as part of a team. Through chamber music, students become part of a musical tradition and experience that is larger than any individual.

Crowden Programs:

The Crowden School

Founded in 1983 and the first of its kind in the nation, the Crowden School is a coeducational day school for grades four through eight, providing a distinguished academic program with chamber music at the core. 

Private Lessons

Crowden offers private lessons on violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano, flute, clarinet, guitar, and composition. Our private lesson faculty members are selected from among the area’s finest musicians and music educators to provide a focused, supportive, and well-rounded musical education for every ability level.

John Adams Young Composers Program

The Young Composers program was founded in honor of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Adams, who has a long association with Crowden, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The heart of our mission is to guide and mentor our students through the formative stages of their creative growth as composers.

Community Music Day

Bay Area families flock to Community Music Day, our free musical carnival for all ages. Enjoy a musical performance, explore our campus-wide Instrument Petting Zoo, join a class demonstration, and more! The musical festivities last all day long. 

Sundays @ Four Chamber Music Series

Crowden's intimate chamber music series features powerful performances and personal insights by distinguished artists. Children under 18 attend Sundays @ Four concerts free of charge.

Mancini Lecture Series

Experts share interesting thoughts on musical topics in this engaging lecture series. This season, we explore interdisciplinary arts in two revealing talks. Students and children under 18 attend our Mancini lectures free of charge. 

Special Events

Crowden presents a variety of special events each year, including master classes by world-renowned artists, concert performances by notable Crowden alumni, and exclusive events for Crowden members.
