Crafty & The Woodshed is based in a colourful and cozy little house located in the Jubilee area of Victoria. Crafty takes up the basement, providing a studio for Renée to base her large projects and prepare for camps she offers in the community. The Woodshed music studio is located in the garden under a red-tin roof. Renée and Lane share their space with their adorable baby boy and two fat cats. They welcome the opportunity to be a part of your creative journey.
Renée Sala, Director of Crafty, offers seasonal and Pro D Day multi-media camps and workshops at local rec centres for kids aged 5-10 (just look for 'Crafty Camp' in the guides). A potter by trade, she teaches process based art mediums such as clay, felt-making and sewing, along with drawing, painting and more. Throughout the school year she creates large-scale school-wide art installations out of clay or wool with local schools.
Lane Arndt, Director of the Woodshed, regularly performs professionally at popular local venues, and teaches lessons in guitar, piano and bass to all ages and levels of students in his Woodshed Studio. He has his Masters in Music Theory and has been teaching and performing professionally for over 20 years. He creates personalized, flexible lesson plans for his students and works with a wide variety of styles, skill-levels and ages.
Crafty has been in operation for 8 years at our Richmond location, and we continue to grow and extend out into our community. The Woodshed joined us last year as we welcomed our new baby and moved the music out of the house :)
Renée studied art in the Visual Arts Program at Camosun College, and is the daughter two artists. She's had a studio in her house since she was a baby, and has spent her entire life being encouraged creatively. She's been teaching children and adults about art for over 15 years. Her own creative energy is spent designing large-scale art installations for local schools in which she involves every student in the school.
Lane has a Masters in Music Theory from the University of Western Ontario. He got his first guitar on his 10th birthday and never put it down. He's dedicated his life to his craft and is an amazing resource of musical information and skill. Lane is a working musician who is fluent in many musical instruments and forms, although Jazz Guitar is his first language. He's been teaching music for 25 years, and currently offers lessons to students ranging from beginners to professionals.
