SKAM School of Performing Arts (formerly Kate Rubin Theatre & Drama Studio) specializes in dramatic training for children, youth and adults. Within a professional, experienced, and supportive learning environment, students flourish with improved acting skills, stronger confidence, creative thinking, public speaking skills, spontaneity, and versatility in physical and vocal expression.
Established in 1996, After working as an instructor for Kaleidoscope Theatre for 8 years, Kate Rubin began with a small studio out of her home and it gradually built over the years to become a highly regarded small business, where youth and adults can train in the theatre arts. Now under the umbrella of Theatre SKAM, a local not-for-profit company who has been playing to theatre audiences in Victoria and on tour for 22 years. Part of Theatre SKAM’s mandate is to encourage and employ emerging artists, so taking over a well loved, well attended, and hugely respected school was an easy decision to make. SKAM’s philosophy to encourage youth and adults to explore their creativity goes hand-in-hand with Kate Rubin’s viewpoint of theatrical learning.

At times, the studio’s students perform in the community for community markets, schools, senior’s homes and day cares. Every year there are also public performances at a number of theatrical venues including The Metro Studio Theatre, The Intrepid Theatre Club amongst others.
