For more than 100 years, Scouts Canada has brought a world of adventure, outdoor experience, friendship and fun to 17 million Canadian youth. Scouting makes a difference in the lives of children, youth and young adults. Providing youth-led opportunities, members determine what areas they would like to grow in as they achieve new “firsts” and develop into global citizens.
With a versatile array of program areas to focus on, Scouting welcomes youth with diverse interests and goals.
In Canada, we follow a program that's uniquely ours, called The Canadian Path.
- A non-formal approach to learning
- The seven components of the Scout Method
- The Four Elements: Youth-led, Plan-Do-Review, Adventure and SPICES (the six attributes Scouting aims to foster: Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional and Spiritual)
- Six balanced Program Areas: Environment & Outdoors, Leadership, Active & Healthy Living, Citizenship, Creative Expression and Beliefs & Values
- A personal journey of growth
Chinook Council
The Chinook Council serves approximately 10,000 youth and adult members through more than 225 Scouting groups in southern Alberta. Our territory spans from the southern Alberta border, north to Bowden. Included in our 13 service areas are the cities of Calgary, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat. Nearly 40% of our members live in smaller urban and rural centres.
The rich geographical and cultural diversity of our area allows us to offer a wide variety of programs and experiences to our members, all of which reinforce, and build upon Scouts Canada Mission, Principles and Vision. With more than 100,000 members, Scouts Canada is the nation’s premier youth-serving organization.
With every new member, with every camp and every community service project, Scouts Canada makes one simple promise to Canadian youth, parents and society:
Scouts have fun adventures discovering new things and experiences they wouldn’t discover elsewhere. Along the way they develop into capable, confident and well-rounded individuals, better prepared for success in the world. Scouts is the start of something great. It starts with Scouts.
