A special place that inspires love and learning of animals and nature

Since 1959, the zoo has continued to evolve and grow. In 2009, the City announced the current revitalization that is to completely overhaul the zoo — redeveloping the former and beloved Storyland elements that had earned their places in the hearts of Edmontonians.

While the Storyland Zoo was leading edge in 1959, times have changed and the City of Edmonton is moving forward, transitioning the zoo to a facility of the 21st century focused on learning and conservation initiatives.

We always love going to the zoo. We pack our own lunch and just splurge on ice cream to make the excursion more reasonable. We also find that going on a cloudy or cooler day means we see a lot more action with the animals and don't get as fatigued walking in the heat. Camera is a must and a stroller or a backpack to keep extra clothes or the ones the kids she'd as well as water bottles and snacks make for a great day. Picnic blanket is nice too so you don't have to find a table and can picnic beside your favorite exhibit ;)

I am impressed with the work that has been done over the past few years to improve the zoo & look forward to seeing what will be done next.
