About

Debate Camp Canada offers summer training programs in public speaking and debate to students who have ideas, an emerging interest in the world around them and are eager to improve their skills with the spoken word. We have 9 day camp and 2 overnight camp locations across Canada, and 4 day camp locations in Northeastern United States.  Our staff are comprised of accomplished speakers at the university level and our program is coordinated and designed by established debate coaches and certified, experienced teachers. We have been in successful operation since 2002 and now serve over 1200 campers annually.

History

Debate Camp Canada was started in 2002, by current camps coordinator, Nick Szymanis.  Our residential programs from 2002 until 2007 were located at Shawnigan Lake School in BC and Rosseau Lake College in Ontario (until 2009) Day programs in Victoria, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal and Halifax. now supplement our 2 overnight locations, west coast on Vancouver Island, and on the east coast at King's Edgehill School in Nova Scotia.  Debate Camp has maintained its original mission statement since opening; that being to provide a fun, safe, accepting and globally-minded academic enrichment program to students between the ages of 10 – 16.  We aim to serve all ability areas, from novice to competitive and throughout our growth, we strive to remain barrier free for as many campers as possible – to attend and learn the valued skills of public speaking and debate.

Reviews of Debate Camp

November 28, 2016

My daughter attended this camp for the first time in the summer of 2016. She was 10 years old. I cannot say enough about the excellent engaging program she was involved in. So content rich, offering her skills she could take into real life situations. It also enriched our parent/child communication as she was better able to represent her thoughts and opinions in such a compelling way. This camp is pricey but very much worth it. The bus service was reliable and safe and the meals were nutritious and picky kid friendly!
