Why does a charity have summer camps?
Why would we invest so much time and effort securing donations to build our Health, Fitness and Aquatics centres and then finding and training the fully-qualified temporary staff needed for seasonal Summer Camps from which we do not make any profit (which is why our pricing is lower than other facilities)?
Because the YMCA was created to help everyone reach their full potential mentally, emotionally and physically (the summer camps and the swimming lessons and the gym part). Our mandate to create life-enhancing opportunities for the growth and development of all people speaks to the mind's right to imagine, the body's right to move and the spirit's right to believe in itself. We believe that fulfilling your potential is everyone's right, every person's advantage and everybody's secret weapon.
If you or anyone you know needs financial assistance to send a kid to camp, please talk to our Members Sales and Service team. As a charity, we don't turn anyone away for the inability to pay -- and summer camps are also supported by our Opportunity Fund (which is funded by the donations of generous individuals and businesses to our YMCA Strong Kids Campaign).
Summer Camps and Summer Day Camps! Our Edmonton YMCA Summer Camps and Day Camps offer children and youth (ages 3-16) the opportunity to participate in fun and engaging activities. The camps are conveniently located in our five Edmonton centres, and there’s before and after camp care to make drop off and pick up easy for you - with FREE Pre-Care (7:30 am - 8:30 am) and Post-Care (4:30 pm - 5:30 pm)!
Compare our competitive summer camp prices with all other facilities -- we've been an entirely independent Edmonton charity for 109 years, including our completely charitable Summer Camps and Day Camps, Health, Fitness & Aquatics Centres, 57 Child Cares, 23 Community Program Centres, 3 Housing Centres and 7 Service and Programs Centres.
Connection to the Community
We see the potential in every kid!
Our summer camps and day camps are designed to spark the imagination, confidence, independence and communication skills of all our campers. All participants will have the opportunity to create positive peer and adult friendships. Through YMCA Healthy Child Development participants will learn physical literacy skills and complete daily physical activity requirements. Our Edmonton summer camps and day camps will offer international activities, games, hands on learning, develop skills, create crafts, swimming and more.
We will motivate our campers to practice the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Diversity and Social Inclusion through our bead program. Campers will have the ability to earn Value Beads throughout their week in camp and add them each day.
Our summer camps and daycamps have been enjoyed by many campers from our surrounding communities, including St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Acheson, Ardrossan, Fort Saskatechwan, Devon, Enoch, Nisku, Namao, Beaumont and Morinville.
Please register now -- though we strive to add spots to existing summer camps and/or open up new camps as possible, for the first time ever last year the summer camps were completely filled. YMCA Members receive a discount on all Summer Camps and Day Camps!
