Located in the heart of the Cultural District in downtown Calgary, Arts Commons is an inspirational gathering space where the arts are celebrated in all forms by you! More than 600,000 people experience the excitement of Arts Commons yearly at 1,800-plus performances and events. Arts Commons is also home to six free art galleries.
Over the last decade, Arts Commons has dedicated to bringing arts and culture to life with educational programming through workshops, theatrical performances, and community-based cultural events. Arts Commons ensures that educators have the artistic tools to inspire, children have the dramatic teaching to imagine, artists have the education to create and that Calgarians, as a whole, will find life rich with arts, culture, and community.
We are offering two camps this year, both two weeks long. Focus is musical theatre for kids 7-9 and 10-13 years of age with a rock/pop/musicals from the 80s theme.
Children will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in creating their own musical tribute to rock, pop, musical theatre from the 80s. They will write the script, act, sing, storytelling, and choreograph a show. They will also have a chance to tour the Art Centre, gain new found confidence through drama and improvisation games, and create visual arts projects for a full arts experience.
At the end of each camp the children will produce a showcase performance for family and friends in the Engineered Air Theatre. The program provides the opportunity for kids to eliminate summer boredom, improve and unlock artistic skills/potential and experience the thrill of performing on a real stage.
