A highly effective, personalized tutoring and enrichment program open to all students in junior kindergarten through 12th grade – including pupils from other schools and former and current Stratford students.
Our expert staff will quickly evaluate each student’s aptitude and academic level, and determine the most effective teaching approach to help him actively engage in meaningful learning. Enthusiastic and talented tutors use interactive teaching methods – and fully customized curriculum – to help students progress quickly and achieve results.
Co-founded in 1999 by Sherry Adams and Joe Wagner, Stratford School opened its first campus in Danville with only four classrooms and a small, dedicated team of educators. Word spread quickly, and the school was soon full. The following year, Stratford added a second campus in Sunnyvale which also filled to capacity.
After numerous requests from parents commuting 30-40 minutes to school each day, Stratford opened a third campus in Los Gatos. Over the years, we have continued to receive similar requests from parents in surrounding Bay Area communities which encouraged us to open campuses in Fremont, San Jose, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, Morgan Hill, San Francisco, Pleasanton, and most recently in San Bruno.
Future plans for growth include bringing Stratford’s vision of academic excellence to more communities throughout the Bay Area. We are committed to offering a challenging curriculum focused on core subjects, creating a safe and nurturing school environment, and motivating students through high expectations. Our steadfast commitment to this vision continues to guide us in our growth each year.
Walk into any of our classrooms and you will see students participating in learning activities that are challenging, engaging, and relevant. Beyond learning how to add, subtract, and use proper grammar, our students learn to better understand themselves and the world around them. They begin to develop their ability to think critically, judge right from wrong, and discover how they want to live their lives.
Inspiring students to realize their full potential requires the right learning environment. By focusing on the following core principles, we strive to provide the best possible learning environment that enables our students to thrive in their nascent cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
Challenging & Engaging Curriculum – We provide an accelerated curriculum, particularly in the areas of mathematics and language arts, to provide our students with a solid foundation for learning. Hands-on activities are incorporated throughout the curriculum to encourage students to think critically and become creative problem solvers inside and outside of the classroom. While we emphasize our core curriculum, we recognize the importance of incorporating art, music, science, and physical education as key components of a balanced curriculum.
High Expectations – Stratford has high expectations for every student. Our teaching and leadership staff use positive reinforcement and challenge students to experience the deep sense of achievement that comes from honest effort and hard work. This ethic is embodied in our motto, "Summa spes, summa res," meaning, "High hopes, high things." It applies to all members of the Stratford community including staff, parents, and students.
Respectful Behavior – Teachers effectively facilitate the classroom and establish clear expectations for well-behaved students. This helps students focus on learning, and promotes mutual respect for teachers and peers.
People Make the Difference – Our teaching and leadership staff are responsible for nurturing the great potential that exists within each of our students. We understand that the best curriculum in the world cannot inspire students without a community of engaging teachers to bring the material to life. Furthermore, recognizing the importance of all members of the Stratford community, our entire staff maintains an open door policy that welcomes feedback on how we can better serve our mission.
These principles have proven successful in developing well-rounded, motivated students who have a solid academic foundation upon which to build throughout their lives. Academically, our students score around the 90th percentile on the Stanford Achievement Test, Tenth Edition (SAT 10).
As proud as we are of our students' academic achievements, we take the most pride in watching them grow to be well-rounded, young adults who are comfortable taking leadership roles among their peers, performing on stage, and giving back to their communities.
