With 240 acres to explore, the University of Alberta Botanic Garden (formerly the Devonian Botanic Garden) has something to appeal to plant enthusiasts, nature-lovers, families and anyone seeking to spend a few idyllic hours in beautiful natural surroundings. Out of the city (but only minutes away), the Garden features 80 acres of display gardens and 160 additional acres of natural areas and ecological preserves.
Feature include indoor display greenhouses, a butterfly house, outdoor displays of annuals and perennials, the Kurimoto Japanese Garden, rose, lilac and peony collections, herb gardens, a native peoples' garden, extensive alpine garden, sensory and healing garden and more. In 2018, construction of the spectacular $25 million Aga Khan Garden, Alberta, will be complete.
Services include a gift shop, unique and unusual plants for sale, patio concession, and guided tram tours. Special events, festivals and expositions are held regularly at the Garden.
In 2018, the Garden will be open to visitors June 29 to October 8, and offers education courses year-round.
