FUN Society is a registered Canadian charity that aims to increase the amount of environmental education being delivered to young people, through innovative, hands-on and fun programs.
At Friends Uniting for Nature (FUN) Society, we believe kids truly can change the world. Our mission is to empower them with the skills, tools and support to make it happen. We help transform youth from a diversity of backgrounds into agents of positive change with hands-on leadership training and environmental education programs. Most importantly, we make everything we do enjoyable – because it’s not sustainable if it isn’t fun!
Our award-winning programs enable kids to discover the interconnectivity that unites their actions with this planet and everything on it. As we guide this exploration, we are helping them cultivate the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to become passionate leaders. At an age when many kids can feel powerless and overwhelmed by the issues of the world, FUN Society provides a space for them to connect with others, themselves, the broader community and the natural world. The power of these connections shows them what they are able to accomplish when they have that perfect mix of passion, tools and teamwork.
Our vision is to be a world leader in education that inspires people into action. We believe in a world where an informed and engaged society works together to tackle the social and environmental challenges we face. As daunting as it may sound, it is absolutely possible and already happening. We are contributing to this positive change revolution through our two major programs: FUN Camps and FUN Champs.
To create and deliver fun programs that inspire and empower young Canadians to preserve and protect the environment through education, leadership and teamwork.
FUN Society was founded in February 2008 by Maia Green, an environmental activist and educator from Victoria, BC. Maia has always believed that making the task of saving the world a whole ton of fun is crucial. Her love for working with young people and her lifelong passion of saving the planet finally found each other and FUN Society was born.
The philosophy driving FUN Society is that experiential learning is the key to change. FUN Society believes that by making environmental education fun and hands-on kids and youth will be inspired into creating a healthy future for this planet. There is a huge need for environmental education and FUN Society was formed to meet that need in an enjoyable way. We believe that connecting children and youth to nature, while also encouraging them to think critically about how they can exist sustainably within a city setting, is an integral part of education. The founding pillars of FUN Society are sustainability, collaboration and leadership.
FUN Society began by piloting FUN Camps in Vancouver in 2008. In 2009 FUN Society became a registered charity, ran after-school programs and a spring break camp in Vancouver, and piloted FUN Camps Victoria as well as a Peer Leader program.
FUN Society has been built on the passion of many like-minded people and the amazing kids who have come through our programs.Connect with us through our social media page on Facebook
Reviews of FUN Society
My son recently attend the Fun World of Water camp. Speaking with him he was very pleased with the camp. He really enjoyed the activities that were scheduled and the staff.
I really liked the learning aspect of the camp. The camp directors really worked hard engage the campers in exploring their passions (whatever they be) and trying to incorporate those passions into their scheduled activities. Letting the campers interests drive their experience - job well done.
As a parent, I was very pleased with how this camp was managed. I was always informed well in advance, of any activity, schedule, and/or pickup/locale changes (and being from out of town - this was much appreciated).
Any questions I had were dealt with promptly (either by prompt email or phone call). Neither my son nor I, had anything negative to say. Prior to enrolling my son in this camp, I was hard pressed to find information/reviews (either online or word of mouth), so I am very happy to be posting a review. I hope it leads to more.
