Winnipeg is arguably one of the best cities in Canada to raise a family! With countless community events, kid-friendly festivals, and seasonal activities, it doesn’t matter if it is +30 °C, or -30 °C your family will always have something to do.
Pop on your toques before heading down to the Forks to start the year off right at the annual fireworks display. We recommend staying bundled for the Festival du Voyageur, in February, as your kids will want to spend the whole day outside with their toboggans and frozen maple syrup lollipops.
The city starts heating up in the spring with fun festivals, sporting events, and free activities. Our personal favourites include the nine-day, circus style Festival of Fools at the end of March, and the cute and cuddly Teddy Bear’s Picnic at the end of May.
However, summer is really when Winnipeg starts to sizzle! Besides the awesome beaches, parks, and museums, we suggest hitting up Folklorama, the two-week multicultural extravaganza, in August to truly appreciate the diversity of the city. Venture just outside the city, on the August Long Weekend, to take part in the Islendingadagurinn, or as some people like to call it the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba. Kids of all ages will have a roaring good time fighting vikings, running races, and watching the parade.
Even in the fall, when the weather starts to cool off, the city still has so much to offer. For Halloween check out Amaze In Corn, or Lower Fort Scary for a scary good time. Once December hits Winterpeg finish the year off right with one of the countless kids winter and Christmas activities, such as the Santa Claus Parade, the Red River Mutual Trail, and Canad Inns Winter Wonderland.
The inside scoop on the best places in Winnipeg to beat boredom no matter what the weather brings.
