Edmonton is arguably one of the best cities in Canada to raise a family! With countless community events, kid-friendly festivals, and seasonal activities, it doesn’t matter if it is +30 °C, or -30 °C your family will always have something to do.
Pop on your toques before heading down to Churchill Square and City for the annual New Year’s Eve Downtown Festival. Your kids will love the hay rides, free skate rentals, and firework spectacular. We recommend staying bundled for the Family Day, in February, as your kids will want to spend the whole day outside participating in the countless free events and activities that the city has to offer.
Edmonton really starts heating up in the spring with fun festivals and sporting events. By May, the city is colourful and alive. One of our personal favourite things to do is visiting the five day International Children’s Festival. Kids of all ages will love the circus styled event, full of music, magic, and theatre.
However, summer is really when Edmonton starts to sizzle! Besides the awesome beaches, parks, and museums, we suggest hitting up K Days at Northland Park, and the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival, to truly take advantage of the exceptional weather and stunning scenery. Not the mention, celebrating Canada Day in Edmonton is a must! Your kids will love the fireworks, live entertainment, and Canadian pride.
Even in the fall, when the weather starts to cool off, the city still has so much to offer. For Halloween check out Fort Edmonton Park, and the Edmonton Corn Maze, for a scary good time. Once December hits we suggest finishing the year off right with one of the many winter and Christmas festivals, for kids in Edmonton and the surrounding metropolitan area. Our personal favourites include the Festival of Trees, Candy Cane Lane, and the Southeast Winter Fun Festival.
