Calgary is arguably one of the best cities in Canada to raise a family! With countless community events, kid-friendly festivals, and seasonal activities, it doesn’t matter if it is +30 °C, or -30 °C your family will always have something to do.
Pop on your toques before heading down to the Municipal Building to start the year off right with a family dance party, or check out the Olympic Plaza for an outdoor celebration and fireworks.
Cow Town really starts heating up in the spring with fun festivals, sporting events, and free activities. By May, the city is colourful and alive. One of our personal favourite things to do is to visit the four day Calgary International Children’s Festival. Kids of all ages will absolutely love the music, magic, and kid-friendly theatre.
However, summer is really when Calgary starts to sizzle! Besides the awesome lakes, parks, and museums, we suggest hitting up the Calgary Stampede, and the Calgary Fringe Festival. Not the mention, celebrating Canada Day in Calgary is a must! Your kids will love the fireworks, live entertainment, and Canadian pride.
Even in the fall, when the weather starts to cool off, the city still has so much to offer. For Halloween check out Heritage Ranch Deer Park, for a flashlight pumpkin hunt, or Halloweekends, at Calaway Park for a scary good time. Once December hits we suggest finishing the year off right with one of the city’s various winter and Christmas activities. Some solid choices include the Light Up the Night Winter Festival, and Christmas Skate, at the Olympic Oval.
The inside scoop on the best places in Calgary to beat boredom no matter what the weather brings.
