'Paint the Rails' - Learning Circle with the Latin American Community

It is a great honor to have been selected as representatives of the Latin American community in Edmonton by the John Humphrey Center for Peace and Human Rights (https://www.jhcentre.org/) to collaborate on their “Paint the Rails” project (“Paint the Rails ”), referring to a series of murals throughout the LRT stations of Edmonton, each representing different religious and cultural groups within the city, and trying to tell their stories through art.

We had the pleasure of accompanying the organizers on Friday, January 24, to a “Textile Tour” at the University of Alberta, since the new mural project in which we have been invited to participate in the Clareview LRT Station, will be based on the use of textiles and images.

We have been invited to host an event on Thursday, March 5 from 7 pm to 9 pm, at the Edmonton Ucrainian Center, located at 11018 97 St NW, Edmonton, AB. For this event, they are asked to accompany us and bring their stories, photographs, art pieces (paintings, textiles (such as burlap)), ideas, etc. so that artists can compile everything and interpret it in an example of the mural, which we will approve before the final project is carried out.

We find this a unique opportunity for the voice of our struggles and challenges, as well as the happy parts of our stories, to be immortalized in a beautiful and artistic way in our city, which represents part of our past, present, and future legacy. Join us! See you on March 5, 2020.
