Vocational Training and Supported Employment (English and Spanish Session)

Does your child receive GGRC services? If so, come and join us for some coffee, snacks and a workshop on Vocational Training/Supported Employment. Stipend available to families that attend.

Supported employment (SE) services are aimed at finding competitive work in a community integrated work setting for person with severe disabilities who need ongoing support services to learn and perform the work. SE placements can be individual placements, or group placements (called enclaves), or work crews, such as landscaping crews. Support is usually provided by a job coach who meets regularly with the individual on the job to help him or her learn the necessary skills and behaviors to work independently. As the individual gains mastery of the job, the support services are gradually phased out.

Joshua Davidson is a staff attorney at Disability Rights California in Oakland, providing advocacy and direct legal presentation of Social Security beneficiaries and Department of Rehabilitation clients to eliminate barriers to employment. He has successfully represented individuals in cases to obtain accommodations at work, eliminate work-related overpayments, and conducts numerous trainings each year on supported employment to people with disabilities, families, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. He earned his law degree at Boalt Hall (Berkeley Law School), and his bachelor's degree at the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

Free childcare, accommodations and interpretation services are available to families who pre-register with one week’s notice. You must call 415-920-5040 to secure childcare, accommodations and interpretation services.
