The Count Me In! Math Institute aims to foster enthusiasm for math teaching and increase confidence by supporting educators to implement effective instructional strategies informed by research. This institute stems from a partnership between University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and the Department of Mathematics. This one-day institute is free to in-service teachers interested in improving their math knowledge for teaching.
The event's keynote speaker will be the phenominal Dr. Cathy Marks Krpan. Dr. Cathy Marks Krpan is a former classroom teacher and district education consultant. She is a professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education where she teaches graduate courses in mathematics education. Cathy presents across North America, Asia, and Europe on effective teaching and learning strategies in mathematics. Her current research focuses on the development of student argumentation. Her newest publication, Teaching Math with Meaning (Pearson Canada) explores practical ways to support teacher and student self-efficacies in mathematics through learning competencies.
Free bagged lunches will provided for all particants and there will be a free mixer sponsored by Pearson in the OISE NEXUS Lounge (12th Floor) at the conclusion of the event (2:00pm - 3:30pm).
