SummerJazz welcomes gifted composer and pianist Danny Green. Join us for an evening of fine jazz beside the vines!
Over the past decade, Green has earned recognition as a bandleader possessing a lyrically charged vision and as a composer with a gift for spinning supple, absorbing narratives. The San Diego pianist’s storytelling goes deeper than ever with his 2018 release, One Day It Will. His original compositions – a vivid blend of jazz, classical, and Brazilian elements – delights critics and audiences across the country and around the world. All About Jazz critic Dan McClenaghan commented, “There’s nothing that adds a touch of elegance to a jazz set more than an adeptly-done string arrangement, and these are superb; violins, viola and cello in a sinuous, sometimes whispering embrace with a vibrant, top-notch piano trio, delving into Danny Green’s distinguished compositions.” Building on his acclaimed 2016 album Altered Narratives, which included several tracks pairing his trio with strings, One Day It Will is a full chamber jazz melding of his working band and a highly responsive string quartet.
The Danny Green Trio Plus Strings will perform music from their new release. Green will be joined by his longtime trio members Justin Grinnell (bass) and Julien Cantelm (drums), as well as Bay Area based string musicians Alisa Rose (violin), Keith Lawrence (viola), and Shain Carrasco (cello).
We'll pour tastes of our wines, and we invite you to bring a picnic. Wine will also be available for purchase by the bottle.
The concert begins at 6pm. We’re open from 5:00 to 8:00. Picnic tables are not available; feel free to bring a blanket to spread on the ground, or beach chairs. Please consider carpooling or bicycling, as parking is very limited.
