Every day, 1pm - 5pm
Jay Perry will teach you the art of sharpening a bevel-edged chisel. You will learn proper sharpening techniques using 1000- and 8000-grit Japanese water stones. Jay will also discuss flattening stones. If you have 1/2" to 3/4" chisels, water stones and/or a 6" bench grinder, bring them along. Jay will help you flatten the stones and true the wheels. All tools and materials for practise will be provided if you do not bring your own.
Jay Perry is a Halifax-based woodworker. He taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design for over 20 years and has taught woodworking classes at the Nova Scotia Centre of Craft and Design. His woodworking interests are eclectic, and include making musical instruments and woodworking for the theater.
