Here in Victoria good planning makes it possible to harvest produce from our gardens during every month of the year. Knowing when to sow seeds is important. But it’s just as crucial to know when and how to transition one crop to another. This presentation will show you how to plan to grow year round, protect your crops in winter, and we’ll even touch on pests and diseases!
Instructor Bio: As Site Manager, Alysha Punnett practices organic gardening and permaculture in the Compost Education Centre’s gardens. Originally from the arid mountains of the Okanagan, a passion for implementing sustainable living strategies led her to the Island to complete a BSc. in Environmental Management, a Permaculture Design Certificate (Seven Ravens Permaculture Academy) and an Organic Master Gardener Certificate (Gaia College). This practical education inspired her to get her hands dirty and learn how to rehabilitate soil to grow her own food and become more self-reliant. She enjoys passing on her experience and knowledge by teaching workshops at the Centre as well as out in the community

The Compost Education Centre is located on unceded and occupied Indigenous territories, specifically the land of the Lekwungen speaking people—the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. These nations are two of many, made up of individuals who have lived within the porous boundaries of what is considered Coast Salish, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Kwakwa'wakw Territory (Vancouver Island) since time immemorial. At the CEC we seek to respect, honour and continually grow our own understandings of Indigenous rights and history, and to fulfill our responsibilities as settlers, who live and work directly with the land and its complex, vital ecologies and our diverse, evolving communities.
