TomoeArts presents the world premiere of Kayoi Komachi/Komachi Visited, a groundbreaking noh chamber opera, October 26 - 28, 2017 at The Cultch. This operatic reimagining of Kayoi Komachi, a classic tale of unrequited love, will innovatively merge noh - Japan's 14th century theatre art of highly-stylized movement accompanied by stirring chant - with Western classical music. Vancouver's own acclaimed soprano Heather Pawsey and preeminent noh artist Yamai Tsunao, backed by a virtuosic ensemble, will perform music by award-winning Iranian-Canadian composer Farshid Samandari. Don't miss this moving adaptation, and otherworldly tale of tormented lovers seeking solace through deeper understanding.
