Rattletree, voted Austin Chronicle's Best World Music Band, returns with Child's Play this year, an all-ages live music, festival-style weekend of glow parties on September 22 & 23.
The festivities will be held at the Rattletree School of Marimba in the heart of Austin's South Lamar neighborhood. Tickets are now available at rattletree.com.
Rattletree's Child's Play is an interactive, energetic live music experience featuring magnificent marimbas triggering driving synth sounds, bursts of color, and dynamic live video projection. The show celebrates lessons from Austin's children about how adults can experience more JOY and connection by putting down our devices and taking time to PLAY! Think cartwheels, monkey bars, and making new friends at every opportunity. Open your heart, get off your screen, and embrace your life & your community.
Everyone is invited to celebrate human connection through this interactive, high-energy, family-friendly dance party. It's FUN for the WHOLE FAMILY!
Guests attending any of the Rattletree concerts are invited to stay late or come early to intermingle between 8-9 PM each night. Friday evening features a Yoga Dance Party hosted by event sponsor Practice Yoga Studio, and on Saturday night Solomon Masala will lead a heart pounding Community Drum Circle sponsored by X8 Interactive Drumming. Cazamance African Food Truck will sell healthy, delicious treats both nights.
"As adults, we have all had the experience of walking in to a coffee shop and seeing every person on their cell phone or laptop. One-on-one human connection has virtually disappeared in only a few short years. I believe the consequence of this is huge and that we haven't even begun to understand the implications.
One day, in one of those coffee shops, I thought about my 8 year old daughter and how she and her friends are still actively engaged in daily human connection. I wondered about how they must see the adult world - people sitting together glued to their devices and not interacting with each other, or even sometimes texting each other across the table instead of talking. I decided to interview her and a few of her friends to find out their advice for adults to experience more fun and connection. The messages in the videos were so inspiring that we decided to share them with the world through our multi-sensory Rattletree show," shares Joel Laviolette, Artistic Director of Rattletree.
Guests are encouraged to leave their devices at home and get decked out in glow paint. Glow sticks and dancing ribbons will be available on the dance floor.
