Jazz Voice Camp, ages 11-15

Run by Music Works Northwest Ages 11-15 yrs

Jazz is America's art form. The fundamentals of jazz are essential for every singer who is interested in performing popular commercial music. This camp will introduce the serious voice student to improvisation (meaning, ad libbing and scat singing in pop, soul and jazz singing styles), developing musical skills through performance, master classes and listening sessions. Singers will learn how to hear harmony so they can feel in control of their individual learning ability to master any song that they sing. The camp will include individual songs, workshops, ensemble singing as well as opportunities to jam like instrumentalists do, or scat sing. Camp Director Kelley Johnson is an award-winning vocalist and has twice been selected by the U.S. State Department to tour as a Jazz Ambassador. A final performance showcasing the students will take place on Friday for friends and family to attend.
