Young Naturalists Club Nature Guardians Spring Session

Run by Young Naturalists Club Ages 10-15 yrs

Calling all 10-15 yr olds who love being outside and working on real conservation projects!

Nature Guardians has a "homebase" location for our programs now...Shubie Park in Dartmouth!

Our FREE programming for this spring includes:

Setting up some water quality monitoring program and collect some baseline data so that we can tell how the water in Lake Charles, Lake Micmac and the Shubie Canal is fairing over time.

We will get to know the forest at Shubie Park and ask ourselves some important, timely questions: Is this a healthy forest? What do healthy forests look like? Is this forest a good example of the endangered bioregion in which we live, the Acadian Forest? We'll do our best to answer these questions and then check in with a forest health expert! In light of many of Nova Scotia's forests being of low quality and with clearcutting on the rise, it seems important to be able to assess whether the forests we see around the province are healthy or not

We will be joining the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute's Monarch Club, as part of which we will seed Monarch butterfly food (Swamp Milkweed) at the beginning of our time together and then on the last day transplant it into our own butterfly garden at the Fairbanks Centre. We'll have to do some learning about Monarchs, and plan, design and dig that garden ourselves!

it is best if you can register for the whole scheduled program, which will be five Saturdays listed from 2-5pm.

Robin will be taking program registrations at or by calling her at 902-455-5643
