What To Expect
The audition process is broken down into three steps in order to provide our aspiring performers and their families the best possible introduction to performing with Children’s Musical Theater San Jose. Please be aware that the entire audition process may take a total of two to three hours.
Participants can pre-register online or download an audition packet and rehearsal calendar (links below). Either option requires you to bring completed forms when you check in on audition day. All forms must be completed and reviewed before moving through the audition process.
Two Ways to Register
Register online below, pay the registration fee and (if applicable) sign up for an audition time. You will also need to print out the audition packet and a rehearsal calendar below and bring them with you to the audition.
In person. Wait in line for the next available spot and fill out the complete audition packet and rehearsal calendar below by hand.
Check-in and Rehearsal Calendar Review
As you arrive, you will check-in and a CMT volunteer or staff member will confirm details of the audition process and review your completed rehearsal calendar. The purpose of the rehearsal calendar is to ensure expectations are set between the performer, the performer’s family and CMT. Please be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns that you have about your schedule with your production representative at that time. If you have 3 or more conflicts in your schedule, we encourage you to contact the CMT office before auditioning and we will be happy to review your calendar in advance. Once your paperwork is complete and approved, performers will receive an audition number and proceed as a group through the audition process.
Performers will audition in groups of 10. Each group learns and then performs a short dance combination. Individuals will then have an opportunity to perform a prepared song. The final audition step is to read a line or series of lines from the production that each performer will receive upon check-in.
Immediately following the audition, production representatives may ask specific performers to come back later in the week to audition further for specific roles. The remainder of the performers are considered cast in the show. The director of the show will let everyone know when the final cast list will be posted. If you have a conflict with the callback auditions, please inform the stage manager at the time of your audition.
