Genetics Lab (grades 7-8 only)

Run by The Harker School Ages 12-13 yrs

Why do some people have green eyes when the rest of their family has brown eyes? Why do certain diseases like hemophilia run in the British royal family? Find out the answers to these questions and much more in this hands-on, lab-based genetics class. Students will enhance their understanding of blood types, human traits, cell division and genetic engineering. This is the perfect class for an aspiring doctor! Students will take on the role of a genetic counselor and help a hypothetical couple determine the likelihood of their potential children having a genetic disease. Through hands-on experiences, students will not only learn about genetics, but also learn about their own traits!
