Run by Strathcona County Recreation, Parks and Culture (Sherwood Park)

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise is an interactive professional development opportunity to increase cultural competency and respond to The Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action. It is both educational and enlightening.

We are holding this event for Strathcona County employees who are involved in recreation, parks and cultural programming.

OBJECTIVE: Attendees will participate in an interactive exercise, focused on sharing some of the key historic events between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples of Canada. Facilitators Pam Sparklingeyes and Elyse Wood will lead participants through a script of events that cover topics such as treaty-making, colonization, resistance, land rights and residential schooling. This is a rare opportunity to better understand and appreciate the history within Canada, as we work towards reconciliation and healing.
