In the morning, explore robotics as you build Pokémon® characters with LEGO® components and control them with programs that you make in WeDo® and Scratch® software. Design Pikachu, Psyduck, Froakie (the frog), Ponyta (the horse), Squirtle (the turtle), Yanma (the dragonfly), and Darmanitan (the gorilla). You’ll use motors along with motion and tilt sensors to move the creatures. Plus, design and build a Pokémon® of your choice or create your own new creature. In the afternoon, design two fun Pokémon®-themed computer games while learning coding fundamentals with Scratch® software. Game features include movement for the trainers, Pokémon® appearing and disappearing, pokéballs and scoring and music. As you create your game, you will learn the fundamentals of computer science by using Scratch®'s code blocks, from loops to if/else statements, logical operators, and variables.Students will take home their games to play at home. Gameplay requires Scratch®, by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab (See scratch.mit.edu) or an installed version of Scratch 2 Offline Editor. Games are compatible on PC and Mac computers.
