Bedford (Youth) - Arts & Crafts

Run by Halifax Community Recreation Services

The goal of this course is to reinforce and integrate basic drawing skills with an exploration of the techniques of visual narrative. Students will be introduced to the elements of plot and visual storytelling, with an emphasis on panel composition, page-layout and story-pacing.

Examples of comics, graphic novels and storyboards will be provided to inspire students and supplement the instruction. In other words, we're going to draw some comics - and I'm gonna show you how to do it in interesting and dramatic ways! All levels of drawing are welcome.

Materials required are: pencils (any regular pencils will do - I often get mine at the drugstore - these don't have to be expensive pencil sets, but you can bring whatever you like!), sketchbook (8.5x11", at least), erasers, pencil sharpener, ruler. Colour utensils are entirely optional, but not necessary.
