Sacramento Lifeguard Academy is an American Red Cross course where potential lifeguards learn rescue skills, surveillance skills, first aid, professional rescuer CPR, and professional rescuer skills. Successful completion of this course will certify participants in Lifeguarding, First Aid for three years and CPR for the Professional Rescuer for one year. Completion of this course does not guarantee employment with the City of Sacramento Aquatics Section. All class dates and times are mandatory for certification. Each class session can include lecture and in-water participation. Prerequisite: Pass pre-course testing consisting of swimming 300 yards continuously (untimed) and swim 20 yards, surface dive 7-10 feet retrieve 10 pound object swim 20 yards to starting point with object in 1 minute 40 seconds. Fees include Red Cross certifications and materials.
