Modern I (Long-term)

Modern dance is distinguished by its use of expression, exploration and movement invention. This dance form focuses on dynamic alignnment, use of gravity and momentum through the exploration of floor work and sequences that move three-dimensionally through space. Students explore the concepts of body, dynamics, shape and space to the sounds of live percussion music. The focus is on dance as an art form and students are given the tools to develop self-expression in a process-oriented environment. Students in Modern Level IV and up must also register for ballet. Course cost includes an accompanist fee and a nonrefundable $30 performance and costume fee. Instructors: Jessica Lin (Sa & W), Danais Yera-Guerra (M).
