Housework doesn't have to be a chore. Here are some tips to make it fun and educational for your kids.
Set Goals and Have Them Earn Rewards
Kids like a challenge! Give your kids just that by having them perform a set of simple tasks. For instance, you can ask them to get all the hair out of the carpet, or take all the unnecessary paper out of their room. Offer small rewards for each task that is performed correctly.
Kids love to pretend that they are adults. Give them fun roles to play while they are cleaning. For example, you could have your daughter pretend to be a Victorian maid, while your son pretends to be a butler. You may even find some clothes or costumes to help them get into their "role" better (plus you will have some adorable photos to show to your friends!).
Don’t Give Them Big Jobs
Be realistic. The easier the job, the better they will do while you tackle the hard tasks. This will not only make the cleaning process more efficient, but will also make them feel better about themselves. It's always a great idea to give the kids a brush and set them to carpet cleaning. This is a relatively simple task that will occupy them for a long time.
Don’t Redo the Kids’ Work
Whatever the kids do, don’t redo it... at least not in front of them. Make sure they understand that you appreciate their efforts and that you are grateful to have such awesome helpers.
