We usually associate pregnancy with back pain, since this is a time when there are weight bearing and postural changes in the body. It is estimated that 50 to 80 percent of all pregnant women have back pain. This is not surprising since structural and hormonal changes can affect the spine, nerves, joints, ligaments, connective tissues, and a person’s stability.
While back pain is common during pregnancy, it can especially become a problem when it affects your life. Your daily activities, work, exercise routine, and relationships can all be impacted. It can be difficult to take care of kids too.
Some people choose to live with back pain, while others choose to combat the pain with over the counter drugs and pain medications. There can be side effects and risks involved.
Especially during pregnancy, many people are careful about what they put in their bodies since their health and the health of their baby is a concern.
Is there another option?
The good news is that back pain can be naturally decreased during pregnancy.
Chiropractic care is a safe and effective, hands-on approach to health care that helps your body heal itself without relying on drugs and surgery.
A Chiropractic exam can help determine the cause of a patient's back pain. If it is determined that Chiropractic care can help, then individual treatment plans are developed.
Benefits of Chiropractic Care
Chiropractors can gently motion the "stuck" joints, especially around the low back and pelvis. This helps ensure that the spinal column, pelvis and related structures are balanced, moving easily, and free of misalignments.
· With correct spinal alignment, the nervous system functions at a more optimal level.
· Decreased back pain for acute and chronic conditions.
· Increased overall health of the body.
· Better posture.
· Some studies that show that Chiropractic care helped to reduce labor time as well as the need for pain medication during labor.
· Drug free, non-invasive, holistic approach to health care.
At my office, we have a special adjusting table for pregnant women. The table is equipped with a "pregnancy piece" that drops down so pregnant women can lie down on their stomach and receive their treatments comfortably.
I have had great results treating pregnant women for over 22 years.
