15 Fun Ideas To Do With Kids This Spring
Don't miss the Spring Equinox Celebration at McKinney Falls State Park on the first day of spring! March 20th, 7:30pm-9pm. There are also multiple events and activities for the whole family, throughout the year. Maybe you have a junior ranger at home. Check their events page often. You and your children can discover what being a park ranger from a real park ranger.
Austin's Woodland Faerie Trail opens for a refreshingly unique adventure at Zilker Botanical Garden! The trail is free with normal garden admission ($1 - $3). Evenings on the Woodland Faerie Trail by Starlight are from 7pm-9pm each night starting March 20, 2015 and will require additional fee ($15 per family). Evenings comes to life and is a whimsical and magical place to bring children of all ages. The excitement of your child while they sip cider or hot cocoa where the faeries and gnomes roam will melt your heart.
Get adventurous at the WestCave Outdoor Discovery Center. Be sure to get there early, the center recommends at least 45 minutes before the two start times each day. The cost of the Canyon Tour includes the Upland Trails as well. Check their site to see dates and times for their Star Parties- where you get to gaze up into the wide open skies of Texas.
Engage their young minds at the Thinkery. Introducing children of all ages to the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). Definitely an education packed full of fun for all ages. Thinkery is open Tuesday- Sunday and costs $9 per person, children under 2 are free. However they do offer an open door program that allows the community admission for a donation.
Visit Kiddie Acres Amusement Park and Miniature Golf. A fun way to spend your day! They have a designated Discount Day which is Wednesday and Every Sunday is Grandparents Day special. On the discount days, all their rides and miniature golf tickets are only $1.25 per ticket. Website has coupons available for additional discounts.
Spend a rainy afternoon exploring The Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex. An entertainment center like this is perfect for when we get those springtime gulley washers called our spring time rain storms. From Arcades to Bowling, or skating while waiting for your favorite movie, there is something here to please even the pickiest teenager.
Check out the wild and exotic animals at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. A short 1 hour drive south on I-35 from downtown Austin is well worth a fun filled family adventure. Spring is the perfect time to bring the kids to see animal parents having kids of their own. Plan on a full day for this adventure there is plenty to see and do! For the daring... Head to Lake Travis Zipline Adventures. Come for the day, or stay the weekend in this AWESOME adventure. Only a short 20 minute drives west of downtown Austin. You and your family have got to see the views with their Full Moon Zipline adventure across the lake in the evening glow sticks and all! The cabins are great for even large families with children. Their spacious cabins are complete with 3 queen size beds and a fold out twin bed and a full kitchen.
Have your coffee and drink it too at Safari Champ. This massive indoor play center has slides, tunnels, ropes, basketball court, and event a zip line. Maybe more importantly, it also has amazing coffee and free wi-fi, which means ample of play for the kidlets while you have a peaceful cup of coffee. It's even open till 8pm! Ahh...

Keep your family active at Hiddenfalls Adventure Park. Whether you are a down and dirty dirt bike rider or four wheeling weekender, the trails are the best around. There is also a full range shooting club, complete with competition skeet and trap fields. A short 1 hour drive from Austin, Hiddenfalls Adventure Park is truly a hidden wonder waiting to be explored.
Treat the kids to Amy's Ice Cream on a sunny day. Their Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream is WORLD FAMOUS, and they have over 350 flavors in rotation, so you are guaranteed to have happy little campers.
Visit the Longhorn Caverns to walk where the Wooly Mammoths roamed, and explore the caverns where the Comanche Indians once called home. Take in the beautiful wildflowers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Springtime is the prettiest time of year for a visit, with all the native wildflowers, and natural habitats.
