There are some truly magical Christmas Events this holiday season, so here’s a list of fun events to get you in the holiday spirit:

It's already December, so Christmas and the wonderful events that go with it are just around the corner! There are some truly magical Kids Christmas Events in the South Bay, so here’s a list of the best and brightest to get you started!


Christmas Events in the South Bay


Cupertino's Tree Lighting Ceremony

When: December 4th

Begin the holiday season with Cupertino's Tree Lighting Ceremony at Quinlan Community Center. The evening will include a countdown to light the tree, music, refreshments, and a special visit from a friend who lives in the North Pole! Admission is free, but bring a non-perishable canned good that will be donated to West Valley Community Services. Dress warm, as part of the event takes place outdoors.


The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

When: December 4-5, 12 (different shows) at the Sunnyvale Theatre

Delight in the hilarious story of an annual church pageant that includes the Herdman kids - the meanest, nastiest, most inventively awful kids ever. Their interpretation of the story makes this year's pageant the most unusual anyone has ever seen and, quite possibly, the best one ever!


Hands-on History Days: Children's Holiday Festival

When: December 5 at History Park

Celebrate the holidays strolling through History Park, listening to the sounds of carolers; ride the trolley, listen in on story time, and visit with Santa, who will be on-hand for photo opportunities!


Dog Day in the Park

When: December 5 at Plaza de Cesar Chavez

Bring your pet to the Santa House at Christmas in the Park (located at the North end across from Downtown Ice). Also experience the Christmas tratiion of lights, trees, and exhibits in Downtown's San Jose's Plaza de Cesar Chavez.


Holiday Gift Fair

When: December 5 at the Triton Museum of Art

This annual event will showcase local art and artesin work. Come early and browse dozens of art - everything from ceramics and jewelry to textiles and paintings. Surprise your loved ones with a truly unique gift this holiday season. This year's Holiday Gift Fair will be in conjunction with the December Triton Free Friday performances. Charged Particles will perform Mad Men Christmas – a jazz and pop performance of holiday music from the ‘40s – ‘60s.


Storytime with Santa

When: December 5 at the Campbell Community Center

Santa Claus will take time out of his busy holiday schedule to make this special annual event at the Campbell Community Center. Santa will read the children a special holiday story, and every child will have the opportunity to sit on Santa's lap, and have their photo taken. Parents are free and must attend with their child/children. Parents are welcome to bring their own cameras too. Holiday crafts, cookies and sipping hot cocoa will round out the night. Children are welcome to come dressed in their pajamas!


Annual Halanda Holiday Party & Show

When: December 5 at Halanda Studio

Halanda Studio teachers & students invite you to celebrate the holidays with music, dance, live music, food, drinks & lots of holiday cheer! Dance performances from all over the world; Halanda studio classes recitals, live music and drumming, open floor dance, drum circle & more! Free admission!


Christmas for Kids

When: December 5 at the Apostles Lutheran Church

While parents spend the morning Christmas shopping, the kids will learn the joyful meaning of Christmas through Bible stories, crafts, a video, and the singing of new and traditional Christmas carols. A snack will be provided. There is no cost to you, as we are happy to be able to share the blessings of Christmas with the children of our community! 


Hooray for Hanukkah!

When: December 6 at the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose

Play the Dreidel Game, sample a latke, and more, at the Museum’s first Hanukkah celebration. You won’t want to miss the performances by Hot Kugel and Yavneh Day School, or the live Donut Demo! Have fun honoring and sharing your own culture, or discovering the celebrations of your neighbors.


Fantasy of Lights

When: December 6-31, nightly at 6pm at Vasona Park

Fantasy of Lights is a 1.5 mile drive-through holiday lights and display entertainment extravaganza for the whole family. Now in its 17th season, Fantasy of Lights continues to be the premier holiday lights spectacular in Northern California. Pre-Paid Tickets are required.


Annual BAGI Glass Ornament Sale

When: December 8-13 at Santana Row

It’s that time of year again when BAGI facilitates finding that unique Christmas decoration while supporting local artisans.

 Each of our ornaments is hand-crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Our Christmas ornaments will become a treasured part of your family's holiday celebrations for years to come.




The Elves and the Shoemaker

When: December 11-12, 19-20 (multiple shows) at the Sunnyvale Theatre

Laugh when two merry elves arrive at a small village in the Black Forest to discover a poor, gentle shoemaker who clearly needs their assistance. Their good deeds, kindness and resourcefulness save the shoemaker and his wife from a bleak and unhappy holiday in this beloved CTC classic adored by both children and adults.


Live Nativity

When: December 12-14 at the Apostles Lutheran Church

Ccome and experience Apostles' breathtaking reenactment of the first Christmas. This outdoor live nativity with allow visitors to take a step back in time to walk the streets of Bethlehem, complete with a cast of shepherds, angels, live animals, Roman Guards and villagers. Come and hear the good news about the newborn child that changed the world forever. Includes snacks, hot chocolate, interactive booths from the town of Bethlehem, petting zoo, and re-enactment of the Nativity.


The Nutcracker

When: December 12-27 (multiple Shows) at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts

Nearly 100 dancers fill the stage with classic holiday magic and season surprises! With re-imagined sets and costumes, Karen Gabay's stylish, smart staging brings a fresh perspective to this timeless holiday tale. Brimming with bravura dancing and just the right amount of gingerbread to put even Ebenezer Scrooge in the holiday spirit, this is the traditional Nutcracker to see!

Adventures in Light

When: December 19-January 3 at the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose

From shadow to shine, reflection to refraction, and glimmer to glow – visit us this holiday season and experience light in a whole new light! The illumination has begun with ShadowDreamScape, combining light and movement in surprising ways.
