Kids Christmas Events in East Bay 2019

Ready or not, the Christmas season is here. There's so many great events taking place in San Francisco's East Bay this year that are perfect to take the family to. Here's a list of Christmas events to mark on your calendar!

Jack London Square Tree Lighting

When: November 22, 2019
Where: Jack London Square

Kick off the holiday season with the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 22. The evening will include holiday entertainment, a Christmas market featuring goods from local artisans, and the lighting of the tree at 6:30 p.m.


San Rafael Parade of Lights and Winter Wonderland

When: November 29, 2019
Where: Downtown San Rafael

This event includes a holiday market, arts and crafts, live entertainment, children's activities, snow sledding, and one of the largest Christmas parades in the Bay Area. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. After the parade, Mr. and Mrs. Claus and other costumed characters will join the Mayor of San Rafael to light the Holiday Tree.




Annual Lighted Yacht Parade

When: December 7, 2019
Where: Alameda Estuary

Take in the 43rd annual yacht parade around the Grand Marina, starting around 5:30pm at sunset. The staging area will be at Wind River.


Snow Day in North Berkeley

When: December 8, 2019
Where: 1450-1500 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley

Santa will be dropping snow early in the morning on December 8, 2019. You're invited to bring your boots and mittens to play in the snow with the Snow Queen. Other activities include riding live ponies, craft making, and shopping for one-of-a-kind gifts from local artisans. 


57th Annual Holiday Arts Festival

When: December 8, 2019
Where: Richmond Art Center

This annual event is the go-to place for buying local holiday gifts. Peruse a marketplace of local arts and crafts vendors, our famous ceramics sale featuring hundreds of plates, mugs and objects made by the Art Center’s ceramic enthusiasts, and so much more.




Mayor's Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony

When: December 7, 2019
Where: Alameda City Hall

Aside from the Tree Lighting itself, entertainment includes live performances by multiple groups, and kids will enjoy candy canes and a visit from Santa Claus himself.


A Holiday Tradition High Tea

When: Saturdays and Sundays, December 1 to 15
Where: Dunsmuir-Hellman Historic Estate

Visit the Dunsmuir-Hellen Historic Estate for high tea. Enjoy breath-taking views of the estate during winter from the Dikelspiel House. Sip on a nice hot cup of team and enjoy sweet and savoury bites. 


Fairy Winterland

When: Select days from December 13 to 30, 2019
Where: Children's Fairyland

During the holidays, Children's Fairyland invites you to celebrate and learn about the winter holidays of many cultures: Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, Diwali, and Chinese New Year. You'll enjoy stories, crafts, special performances, a festival of lights, and a visit from Santa.




Berkeley Ballet Theater presents The Nutcracker

When: December 20 to 22, 2019
Where: Regent's Theater at Holy Names University

For more than thirty years, Berkeley Ballet Theater’s rendition of the holiday classic The Nutcracker has been an East Bay family favorite. BBT’s moving version of the ballet’s storyline highlights the holiday spirit of giving and is an extension of the school’s commitment to bringing good things to those less fortunate.


ZooLights

When: December 6, 2019, to January 5, 2020
Where: Oakland Zoo

Visit the Oakland Zoo any night from December 6 to January 5 to see over a million lights glowing. Watch the Music in Motion laser light show, and stop by the candy cane lane-themed Adventure Landing area with rides kids will love. Plus, kids will have a blast in the Penguin Playground, and Santa will be there too!
