Christmas parades are sort one of those things that seem like an absolute nightmare when you think about having to get all the little ones organized and warm enough and then there’s traffic and all the thousands of people… but they also happen to be pretty amazing when you actually make the effort! So to make things a little easier on you we’ve compiled a list of local parades you will want to be sure to take in this holiday season. Prepare to be enchanted by these beautiful San Francisco Christmas Parades!

San Francisco Christmas Parades:

Fantasy of Lights Christmas Celebration

When: December 7
Where: Union Street

Union Street’s annual kickoff to the Holiday Season takes place on December 7th this year, 3-7pm. The Snow Queen leads a sidewalk parade of children bringing toys to donate to San Francisco children’s charities as they welcome Santa and his Elves in front of the historic Cudworth Mansion (2040 Union). All manner of costumed characters entertain the crowds until dusk when all of the buildings light up with twinkly white lights making Union Street a magical fantasyland for young and old alike.

14th Annual America’s Children’s Holiday Parade 2013

When: December 7
Where: Downtown Oakland

Plans for the 14th Annual America’s Children’s Holiday Parade are well underway and it promises to bring together more children’s stars, new floats, giant balloons, terrific marching bands and entertaining entries along with new and exciting elements. The parade is a hugely popular events with more than 100,000 spectators lining the streets of downtown Oakland! The Parade will wind it’s way down Broadway and 11th Street to 20th Street and Harrison Avenue, so pick a spot, get some hot cocoa and settle in for the magical event on Dec 7, 2 pm!

Fisherman’s Warf Lighted Boat Parade

When: December 13
Where: Fisherman’s Wharf

The Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District and the St. Francis Yacht Club will join once again to present the oldest and largest lighted holiday boat parade on San Francisco Bay. More than 60 boats, each festooned with lights and holiday decorations, will parade along the waterfront. Best views from: Aquatic Park, PIER 39, the Marina Green, and Crissy Field. Dec 13, 5:30 pm. Definitely a family favorite when it comes to San Francisco Christmas Parades!

11th Annual San Francisco Parol Lantern Festival & Parade

When: December 14
Where: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

Now in it’s 11th year, the Annual San Francisco Parol Lantern Festival & Parade, is an opportunity for the SF Filipino community to showcasea the parol lantern – the quintessential Filipino symbol of hope, blessings, luck, peace, and light during the holiday season. The theme for 2013 is “Liwanag para sa tanan: Enlightenment for All,”… Celebrate a memorable evening of lights, with a parade, parol lantern gallery, music, performances, chalk art, and games!
