9 of the Best Indoor Playgrounds to Take Your Kids to in Edmonton

Published Jan 7, 2020

Looking for a place to bring your kids during the cold winter months? You have to try one of these great indoor playgrounds in the Edmonton area, list revised for 2020!

Is being trapped indoors making it hard to let your kids blow off some steam?

Over the years more and more indoor play areas have been popping up, and it's no wonder—they're a parent's best friend! It's the perfect way to spend an hour or two while you can have a coffee or snack and watch your kids play to their heart's content.

There's certain things you can expect from all nine play places on this list, so let's get those out of the way:

  • Socks are always required. Don't forget your socks!
  • Some places require grip socks (most will try to get you to buy theirs for $3 – $4 when you arrive).
  • Outside food and drink are not allowed.
  • All have a huge focus on safety and cleanliness.
  • Supervising adults are free with children's admission.

In no particular order, here's the nine indoor playgrounds we think you should check out.

Café O’Play - NW

Café O’Play combines the best of a traditional coffeehouse with an indoor playground specifically designed for children up to six years old.

They provide a safe, secure, and clean environment that includes just under 1,000 square feet of play area, surrounded by seating. Guardians are able to enjoy freshly-made in-house baked goods, local foods, and beverages while supervising their children as they play.

Prices: $9.95 per child ages 1 – 6, siblings receive a discounted rate of $7.95

The trampoline park is a wonderful added touch, especially for older kids. This is what makes Uplay one of our favourites. There's tons of open space, dodge ball, basketball hoops, and foam pits to jump into with a nice, soft landing.

Allstars Indoor Playland - SW

Allstars is one of the largest indoor playgrounds in the Edmonton area! With over 28,000 square feet, there's almost anything your children can dream up—a huge climbing structure, slides, tunnels, trampolines, arcade games, and a massive toddler zone with sensory toys and a soft floor.

One of the favourites is a zipline that takes kids flying through the air. Kids must be 50 to 200 pounds to be able to ride this one, and it's only for the kiddos (so don't get your hopes up!). This is an extra $5 fee per ride, or $15 for 4 rides.

Fun Park Amusement Center - Sherwood Park

Outside the city at 3001 Buckingham Drive, this Fun Park is jam packed with entertainment for all ages. Recently renovated last year, this place has received rave reviews from parents. Your best value is to go on weekdays with a little one, as you get unlimited play time for the same price as 1 hour on weekends. It's also much less busy, and busy times could be intimidating for a younger child.

Their indoor jungle gym is jungle themed and easy enough for children to climb, crawl, swing, and slide their way around. Their open jump trampoline park has a toddler area, dunk zone, dodge ball, foam pit, and even a ninja course. Once the kids have blown off steam, there's laser tag, arcade games, and more.

As far as supervision, there's a restaurant up top where you can keep an eye on your kids below. You can also be right on the floor with them as long as you have grip socks. Note that a common issue for parents is that they feel it is slightly understaffed, so depending on your child's age, skill, and comfort level, you decide how close you should stay.

Play Time Pricing (Weekdays): Unlimited time $18.99 for 6 years and older, $12.99 for 5 years and under
Play Time Pricing (Weekends): 1 hour of time $18.99 for 7 years and older, $12.99 for 6 years and under
Additional Fees: Laser Tag, Arcade Games, Billiard, Foosball

Amazone Playzone

Amazone Playzone is one of Edmonton's newest indoor play centres. In fact, it's the largest indoor playground in Western Canada. The facility, located in the Abbottsfield Mall, is very clean, and kids will easily be entertained there for hours on end. It has quickly become one of Edmonton parents' top choices for indoor play places.

The facility has over 36,000 square feet of play structures and activities. Ball bits, slides, climbing wall, obstacle courses, arcade games—the list of fun activities at Amazone is endless. There's even a toddler area reserved for the little ones. Age and height restrictions are clearly marked on the equipment across the facility. Staff are always present and willing to help.

Amazone has a really big cafe area, especially for an indoor play place. There's rows of table, ample seating, and lots of affordable food and beverage options.

Pricing (Monday–Friday): $12.95 4 years and up, $7.95 1–3 years, free 1-11 months
Pricing (Saturday, Sunday and Holidays): $16.95 4 years and up, $11.95 1–3 years, free 1-11 months
Additional Fees: Adventure Zone and Sky Ride
Discounts: 30% off after 7 pm, 20% off for special needs families, 20% off for military families

More Great Options to Consider

While those are the main indoor playgrounds around the Edmonton Area, there's still tons of places to have fun while remaining indoors. Here's a few suggestions we liked from parents:

Tegler Discovery Zone - This new indoor play space recreates local wildlife habitat in a way that allows children to learn about nature through play. Designed for children up to age 10, although all ages are welcome.

Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre (NW) - Kids can climb, slide, balance and roll in a spacious room full of tyke-sized play equipment from 8am to 8pm daily. Suitable for younger kids, up to 10 years old. Included in regular admission (and free for supervising parents).

Launch Pad (NW) - Although on the pricier side in comparison with others on the list, this ultimate indoor trampoline park is tons of fun for the whole family.

Fast Track (NW) - Indoor go-karting if you're feeling the need for speed! Drop in racing available with Junior and Adult tracks available.

My Gym (SW) - This child fitness center is structured around classes instead of drop-ins, but it's an amazing way to keep your kids active while having fun.
