Indoor play areas are a safe haven for parents as you can let your little ones run around and blow off some steam no matter what the weather chooses to do (because you just never really know around here).
As it gets cold and snowy this winter, you can still tackle a playground or two! It's always such a treat for my kiddos to play at these places. They are great options for birthday parties too.
In no particular order, here's a list of some of the best indoor play centres in and around Calgary.
Hide'n'Seek is one of the largest indoor playgrounds in Calgary, and it's loved by parents because of its high standards of safety and cleanliness. They have two play areas for kids 36 months and younger and tons to do for the older kids, from the huge multi-level play structure to arcade games with prizes. The play structure is big enough for even parents to fit and get in on the fun! The lounge area is welcoming and the cafeteria has tasty meals and healthy snacks.
49 Aro, Drive NE, Unit 18
Open 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily
The four storey play structure is big enough that anyone who is a kid at heart can play (even parents!). TreeHouse has a toddler area for the little ones, an arcade area with prizes, rock climbing wall, inflatables, and a full concession with different food options and coffee. The layout is a nice and open concept, allowing you to sit at the cafe and relax but still keep a watchful eye on your child. With so many options to suit the needs of any age, it's a perfect place to spend a few hours when you have a range in ages and interests!
3337 34 Avenue NE
Open play 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily
This indoor playground is extremely clean, has a great design, and is well managed. Out of the big indoor facilities in the Calgary area, this one is our favourite if you have a younger child (seven and under) as it's a bit more spaced out with lots of separate areas and less busy. Kids will enjoy the big play structure, slides, bouncy castle, ball pit, ninja course, and toddler room. There's lots to for all ages. They also have a cafe area with healthy snacks and plenty of seating, where you can view the play area and keep an eye on your children.
6008 Macleod Trail SW #128
Open Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesday 2 p.m. – 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Calgary Farmers' Market has an indoor area just off the food court for children to play. It’s a great spot because parents can sit nearby, enjoy a coffee, or lunch with a friend or get some work done on the free wi-fi. With the long winters in Calgary, the indoor Barnyard Kids Play Area is very popular, and best of all, free!
510 77th Avenue SE
Open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday – Sunday
A much pricier option, but a fun indoor activity is to visit TELUS Spark to unleash your curious side. Kids can think with their hands in Open Studio and fly to the outer reaches of the known universe. They have a three storey tower kids can climb and slide on down. But on top of the play, there's live science demonstrations and lots of exciting learning.
220 St. George's Drive NE
Open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. most days
LOL Family Entertainment Centre has something for kids of all ages. Its range of activities include an indoor playground, arcade, mini golf, bowling, a 5D cinema ride, and more. There's also a great selection of food and drinks to choose from if your kids need to refuel after using up all of their energy from running around.
13226 Macleod Trail SE #146
Open Sunday to Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Flying Squirrel is world's largest indoor trampoline fun park. They have two great locations in Calgary, one in the north and the other in the south. Whether trampolining is one of your favourite activities or if you haven't been on a trampoline for years, everyone will enjoy the Flying Squirrel. Try playing dodgeball, slam dunk, jump into the foam pit, walk the tightrope—you're bound to have a good time.
North - 572 Aero Dr. NE #105
South - 5342 72 Ave SE
Open Sundays and Mondays 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Tuesdays to Thursdays 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays 2 p.m. to midnight, and Saturdays 10 a.m. to midnight.
Big Box is one of Calgary families' favourite indoor play spots. It's 55,000 square feet of outrageous fun. Its highlights include a 20,000-square-foot soft-play area, a gigantic inflatable structure, an aerial ropes course, and a virtual reality experience. It seriously is a great place for kids to play.
