The best events happening around the Vancouver area. Parades, skating, beautiful lights, Christmas performances, the list goes on!

Christmas is in the air, at least it’s feeling rather frosty! We just love this time of year though, all the pretty Christmas lights starting to make a presence, holiday drinks, and of course the children’s excitement! That’s why we have put together a list of some of the most wonderful kids Christmas Events Vancouver has to offer this year.

Heritage Christmas

Stroll through the streets of the Village to see wreaths, cedar swags and vintage-themed displays will. At the bandstand, visitors can create their own magical holiday show with lights that change colours to sound. 

Special entertainment is scheduled throughout the season including theatre performances, community choirs, street characters and musicians. Many family-favourite activities are back including a craft for children, baking in the Farmhouse and, of course, visits with Father Christmas

Bright Nights Christmas Train

Visit the Stanley Park for Christmas as they celebrate 20 years of Bright Nights!

During the holiday season, the Bright Nights Christmas Train and Stanley Park Train Plaza sparkle with three million twinkling lights.Buy tickets to ride the Bright Nights Train and experience the lights, breathtaking displays, and live performers along the train route. Or view the displays at the Train Plaza by donation ($4.00 suggested).Your donations and a portion of ticket sales go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund.

The Peak of Christmas

Gently falling, sparkling flakes. Twinkling lights. Whipped topping on a warm drink. Frosted branches. A snowy beard on a jolly elf. This year, wrap yourself in the magic of a white Christmas.

Experience the magic of the season on Grouse Mountain with the annual, Peak of Christmas event!

Highlights of the event include: Santa’s Workshop – meet Santa at his workshop to share those holiday wishes; Light Walk - Enjoy glow of light against a majestic mountain backdrop, Sleigh Rides, Gingerbread Village, Craft Station, Watch fun family Christmas movies on the big screen in the Theatre in the Sky and much more!

The perfect holiday event for the whole family!

Christmas at FlyOver Canada

Fly with Santa and his elves on a magical flight across Canada and on to the North Pole! After meeting some of Santa's elves, Chestnut and Pinecone, you'll join them as they take flight across Canada looking for their fellow elves. You may even get a sneak peek of Santa's Workshop as you soar over the North Pole. 
Christmas experience lasts between 20 - 25 minutes and includes:

  • Winter Wonderland themed preshow
  • FlyOver Canada, a thrilling 8-minute flight ride experience across Canada
  • An extended, animated final scene over Santa's magical North Pole!

Canyon Lights

Celebrate Canyon Lights, re-capture the feeling of wonder and excitement of the holiday season and be amazed by the hundreds of thousands of lights throughout the park. The suspension bridge, Treetops Adventure, Cliffwalk, the rainforest and canyon are transformed into a world of festive lights and visual enchantment.

This year the 30-ton Douglas firs of Treetops Adventure receive star treatment. Treetops Adventure is a series of seven suspension bridges attached to eight 250 years old Douglas-firs with viewing platforms, reaching up to 110 feet above the forest floor. These magnificent Douglas firs will be lit above and below the collars, making these trees the eight tallest Christmas trees in the world!

Back by popular demand, go on a Snowy Owl Prowl, decorate gingerbread cookies (by donation)  and sing-along carols with the holiday band.  Two new children’s activities this year include decorating wooden ornaments and make your own holiday badge (by donation) in the Winter Craft Tent.

Holiday Traditions At Vancouver Aquarium

The holiday spirit comes in waves at The Vancouver Aquarium. From magical aquatic displays, to Scuba Claus, special seasonal activities and more, your family will create a lifetime of unforgettable holiday memories.

The holidays aren’t complete without a visit with Scuba Claus. Watch the jolly old man in the red suit (and black flippers) swim with the fish in the Wild Coast and Strait of Georgia exhibits. Scuba Claus dives daily from November 24 to December 24.

Free Ice Skating at Robson Square

This winter, renew a classic Vancouver tradition and enjoy some old-fashioned fun. Robson Square’s outdoor skating rink is open, so celebrate winter in style with free skating in the heart of downtown Vancouver. It’s a magical place to enjoy the holidays with your friends, family and loved ones.

Festival of Lights at Van Dusen Botanical Garden

Experience VanDusen Festival of Lights, sponsored by Vancouver International Airport and Air France. A magical winter wonderland with over one million lights will decorate 15 acres of VanDusen Botanical Garden. All tickets include a free ride on the Air France Carousel! Stroll with friends and family through interactive themed areas, watch the famous dancing lights show on Livingstone Lake, sing along to your favourite holiday classics at the Festival Stage, listen to stories and take a selfie with Santa, light a candle at the Make-A-Wish candle grotto, warm up with a specialty beverage at our new licensed fireside lounge, savour tasty treats and much more.

Karaoke Christmas Lights

Join The Vancouver Trolley Company and sing your favourite holiday carols while visiting two of Vancouver’s most spectacular light displays.

Festively decorated Trolleys equipped with TV’s and karaoke machines for your seasonal singing enjoyment will depart every evening from Canada Place at 6:30pm.

Upon pickup, guests will sing their way past the city lights of downtown before arriving at Bright Nights at Stanley Park.  After being given time to walk through the light display and take in Stanley Park’s holiday magic, the tour will continue along and view local light displays such as the English Bay Christmas Tree, Hycroft Manor and Canuck Place.  The second stop of the evening will be at VanDusen Botanical Garden where guests will disembark once again to enjoy the Festival of Lights. Hop aboard one last time for the return trip to downtown Vancouver and viewing of St. Paul’s Hospital Lights of Hope.

Vancouver Parade of Carol Ships

Decorated in full holiday lights and décor, the Carol Ships are a sight to see! 

The ships will be dressed for this very special occasion with hundreds of colorful lights and decorations - both inside and out. You'll listen to holiday classics as you dine on a feast fit for a seafaring king! Entertainment aboard the Abitibi includes a pianist and caroller leading passengers in song. Join in if you like, or simply sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of the season unfolding around you as we take part in this annual celebration which promises to be even more popular this year. Reserved seating at linen dressed tables in fully heated salons. Santa Claus will even make an appearance during your Vancouver Carol Ship cruise if you promise to be good!

Vancouver Santa Claus Parade

Mark your calendar! Santa's early visit to Vancouver is the perfect kick off to the holiday season!

TELUS presents the Santa Claus Parade features 60 marching bands, dance troupes, festive floats and community groups. More than 300,000 spectators will be entertained by this annual holiday kick-off. Produced by the Vancouver Santa Claus Parade Society, the televised parade is the Lower Mainland’s biggest winter event. The December chill in the air is rarely felt at the parade, as it is well-known for its festive, magical and feel-good atmosphere.

The parade will start at West Georgia and Broughton (at 12:00 pm), travel east along West Georgia, turn south on Howe and finish at Howe and Davie.

Christmas at Fort Langley 

There are two Christmas events being organized at Fort Langley this year.

1. Old-fashioned Musical Christmas

Join in a magical evening of carols around the fire, Indigenous music performances and a musical Dickens reading all inside Fort Langley’s historic walls. Get a free photo of your party at our professional photo booth. Sign a card with a fountain pen, sample heritage hot chocolate, and admire the big Christmas tree. lelƏm’ at the fort café will offer hot drinks, baked goods, tourtière and cookie decorating. 

Most activities will be indoors, but dress for the weather, as you will be exploring from building to building, rain or shine

2.  A Fort Langley Christmas

Top off Parks Canada’s complimentary admission year at Fort Langley, the place where BC became BC. 
Hear Kwantlen stories, taste a chestnut roasted over the fire, and make a beautiful cedar ornament. Take a guided tour at 11 a.m. or 3 p.m., or enjoy the daily feature at noon. At 2 p.m., see what our interpreters have baked up in the outdoor oven. Admire the giant outdoor Christmas tree and take family photos at various scenic spots on site.

Winter Holidays At The Roundhouse

Enjoy the holiday season at the Roundhouse. We have photos with Santa, including printed portraits, cookie decorating with Holiday themed cookies, and festive outdoor lighting. Bring the whole family to enjoy some hot chocolate while taking in this fun event. All proceeds benefit the Roundhouse and Elsie Roy after-school programming. No registration required.

Timberline Country Christmas

If your family is looking for a relaxing and fun Christmas experience that avoids the crowded malls and long Santa line-ups, "Come out to the country"!

Leave the busy city behind, and enjoy the short trip to a 73 acre horse ranch in Maple Ridge that has been transformed into a Christmas wonderland. Here you will be enchanted by glorious lights, beautiful trees, interactive scenes, lovely music, and delightful activities that remind us of times when Christmas was a lot simpler . . . and a lot less commercial
