It feels so long since Canada Day and we didn’t even get a proper long weekend! Not to worry, because here comes BC Day, with three fantastic days of family-friendly entertainment spread over a glorious summer long weekend!

There’s tons of great BC Day events taking place in Vancouver this year, from the Honda Celebration of Lights to one of the biggest pride parades in North America. Check out our listings below for tons of great ways to enjoy the August long weekend with your little ones this year.

BC Day Events in Vancouver

Vancouver Pride Parade

Join one of the most beautiful and diverse parades in the world. The Vancouver Pride Parade was granted civic status last year in 2013 and is one of the city’s flagship events!

Attracting crowds of more than 650,000, the Pride Parade is renowned on the international stage as one of the largest and most successful LGBTQ events in the world.

Find your place along one of the most beautiful and diverse parade routes in the world! Some of the best spots for viewing include the three MC locations; The Unstoppable Conni Smudge at Safeway on Robson; Caryl Dolinko at Denman Place Mall; and Joan E! at the Boathouse.

Honda Celebration of Light

The Honda Celebration of Light is not only Vancouver’s biggest event, but it’s also the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world and attracts up to 400,000 spectators along English Bay each evening. Owned by the Not For Profit Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society, 2014 marks the 24th consecutive year of the event, which contributes in excess of $39 million in incremental tourism and hospitality spending each year.

2014 will bring 3 new countries to Vancouver, guaranteed to put on world class Pyro-Musical performances each night.

White Rock Sea Festival 65th Anniversary

Held every year for 65 years, the White Rock Sea Festival is a fun, family event that attracts up to 100,000 visitors to White Rock’s waterfront for the August long weekend. 38th Annual Powell Street Festival 2014

The Powell Street Festival is an annual celebration of Japanese Canadian arts, culture and heritage that features something for everyone: dance, music, film and video, visual arts, martial arts demos, amateur sumo tournament, craft vendors, traditional displays, and of course, tons of scrumptious Japanese food.

PSF is the largest event of its kind in Canada and the longest running community arts festival in the Lower Mainland. We provide a much-needed venue for emerging and established, professional and amateur, and traditional and contemporary artists in the Japanese Canadian and Asian Canadian communities.

Harmony Arts Festival

Enjoy kids’ art workshops, art exhibitions, concerts and family-friendly activities. There is plenty of family fun for children of all ages. The Harmony Arts Festival brings a wide array of visual arts experiences to West Vancouver every summer. Free outdoor movies, Art Market, Art exhibitions and more!

For food lovers, there is no better way to wind down from a wonderful day at the Harmony Arts Festival than to attend on of the many culinary events.

Squamish Days Festival

This year the community is celebrating 100 years of Squamish. Join us for a special edition of the Squamish Days Festival, including new events and some favourites from our past!

Squamish Days is a weekend full of excitement, fun and action aimed to make every member of the family smile. There are music & art events, children’s activities, a parade, wacky bed races, a 10K run, pancake breakfast and two world class Loggers Sports Shows with competitors from all around the world. This event showcases not only Squamish’s rich heritage, but also it’s strong and vibrant community spirit.

International Summer Night Market 2014 at Richmond

The International Summer Night Market is just as big as the competing River Rock Casino night market location. It features over 60 food stands serving Asian cuisine and close to 200 retail vendors. Both the River Rock Casino and Vulcan Way locations offer a North American take on the night markets of Asian cities like Hong Kong and Taipei.

Abbotsford Agrifair and Mighty Fraser Rodeo

The Abbotsford Agrifair truly is “the best little country fair!” providing the community with what everyone wants – an affordable family-fun time!

Kid-friendly attractions include go karts and face-painting, Lego displays and build-and-play areas, and family-friendly entertainment like pro wrestler Ted DiBiase and Tickles the Clown.

Tickets are $10–15, but kids under 10 are free.

Food Cart Fest Surrey

Food Cart Fest Vancouver is a gathering of over 20 of the city’s top Food Carts presented by Vancity, Arrival and The Streetfood Vancouver Society.
