The Christmas season is upon us and there are tons of amazing festivities for your family! Light displays, photos with Santa, holiday markets, and much more. Here's your calendar of events.

The weather is getting rather frosty but not all is lost, it’s a wonderful time of year to celebrate and enjoy all sorts of community traditions and festivities with your family!

We have a complete calendar of Christmas events on ChatterBlock, but for this blog we've curated a list of some of the best ones Winnipeg has to offer. 


Winnipeg Santa Claus Parade

When: Saturday, November 17th, 2018 at 5pm
Parade Route: 
Begins at Portage Ave & Young St, heads east down Portage Ave, turns south on Main St and continues until William Stephenson Way. The parade ends at Westbrook Street.

What more perfect of a way to kick off the season than one of the most treasured holiday traditions in Winnipeg! Ours is the second largest parade in Canada and largest nighttime parade in the country, attracting over 60,000 people each year. Don't miss out on all the pre-parade fun. There's 7 separate block parties that start at 4pm with different kinds of activities or treats perfect for families. Here's all the pre-parade information you need.


33rd Annual Christkindmarkt

When: November 30th - December 2nd  See Times
Where: Hotel Garry Place Mall

Since 1985, the German-Canadian Congress has their Annual Christkindlmarkt (German Christmas Market), the oldest running German Christmas Market in Canada. The usual favourites will still be offered such as German chocolates, Stolln, Gluehwein (mulled wine) and many other German specialties. Entertainment is planned all weekend long and there will be over 60 tables of Manitoba crafters and vendors to find those Christmas gifts.


Canad Inns Winter Wonderland


When: November 30th, 2018 - January 5th, 2019 daily from 6pm-`10pm
Where: Red River Exhibition Park

Canad Inns Winter Wonderland is Manitoba’s largest drive-thru light show and provides a brilliant presentation of over one million lights in 26 different theme areas. Travel the 2.5 kilometre route in the comfort of your own vehicle, tune your radio to the Park’s Christmas station and enjoy the views. Weather permitting, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, enjoy a complimentary sleigh ride! Read more...

Pro tip: Get your tickets ahead of time at Mac's, Red River Co-op, or Canad Inns for only $15 + GST for one family vehicle up to six passengers. 


Spaghetti Breakfast With Santa

When: Saturday, December 1st at 10am - Get tickets
Where: Manitoba Children's Museum

This highly-anticipated annual event at the Children’s Museum is piled high with tons of unusual fun! Guests will enjoy a non-traditional spaghetti breakfast - YES you can eat spaghetti for breakfast ... followed by holiday activities and a tour of the Eaton’s Fairytale Vignettes display that will make this a day to remember. And shhh, don’t tell anyone but we’ve heard that Santa will even be surprising us with a visit!


Canadian Pacific Holiday Train

When: Monday December 3rd, arrives at 9pm and event lasts till 9:45pm
Where: Winnipeg Station

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train programs returns for its 20th year to raise money, food and awareness for food banks and hunger issues across both Canada and the United States. Bring the whole family out the visit the 2 incredible decorated trains! These trains are about 1,000 long, have 14 rail cars decorated front to back in LED lights, and are accompanied by performers Terri Clark, Sierra Noble, and Kelly Prescott. Read more...

Ghosts of a Christmas Past

When: December 6th - December 8th
Where: Dalnavert Museum

A spookier take on Christmas traditions! The Victorians loved to spook their family and friends at Christmas, so the museum will be sharing some of the beloved tales of terror using Victorian innovations and good old fashioned story telling. Think your family can handle it? Read more...


Breakfast with Santa

When: Saturday December 15th from 9am-11am
Where: Deer Lodge Community Centre

Meet Santa and celebrate the true sense of community! There will be cookie decorating while supplies lasts, crafts, colouring, and other fun activities (TBD).  Read more...


Royal Winnipeg Ballet Nutcracker

When: 9 shows from December 19th-29th, 2018 - See all times
Where: Centennial Concert Hall

Performed by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, this sparkling holiday tradition is a festive feast for the senses with enchanting costumes, timeless choreography and a brilliant score by Tchaikovsky. Nutcracker features endearing Canadian scenes like a snowy pond hockey game and a battle on Parliament Hill. A holiday classic for the whole family!


Linden Lights

When: December
Where: Candy Cane Lane - Foxmeadow Drive & Polar Bear Lane -Hennessey Drive

Although "Linden Lights" isn't actually an event, there is no question the these two streets have some of the best Christmas decoration in all of Winnipeg. Make some hot chocolate to-go, heat up the car, and take the whole family out for a drive. Besides gas and hot chocolate his outing is 100% and 100% fun!


Where to Get Photos With Santa

Looking for a special photo-op with your children, pets, and loved ones? 

1. Santa Suite at Fairmont Winnipeg: Weekends in December at 10am, 12:30pm, 1pm, 3pm for $10 per family

2. St. Mary's Nursery and Garden Centre: Get photos with Mr & Mrs Claus in their winter wonderland, with proceeds going to charity. Then enjoy a complimentary sleigh ride from the Clydesdales! 


Craft Fairs and Holiday Markets
