Christmas is approaching, and like Santa, there is a lot for us to do! But where are all the fun events? Here is our schedule:

The weather is getting rather frosty but not all is lost, it’s a wonderful time of year to celebrate and enjoy all sorts of community traditions and festivities with your family! Here’s a list of some of the best Christmas events Winnipeg has to offer!

2016 Christmas Events in Winnipeg

31th Annual Christkindmarkt

When: November 26 - 27th 
Where: Holy Cross School 

Since 1985, the German-Canadian Congress has their Annual Christkindlmarkt (German Christmas Market), the oldest running German Christmas Market in Canada. The usual favourites will still be offered such as German chocolates, Stolln, Gluehwein (mulled wine) and many other German specialties. Entertainment is planned all weekend long and 88 tables of Manitoba crafters and vendors to find those Christmas gifts. 

Spaghetti Breakfast With Santa

When: December 3rd 
Where: Manitoba Children's Museum

This highly-anticipated annual event at the Children’s Museum is piled high with tons of unusual fun! Guests will enjoy a non-traditional spaghetti breakfast - YES you an eat spaghetti for breakfast ... followed by holiday activities and a tour of the Eaton’s Fairytale Vignettes display that will make this a day to remember. And shhh, don’t tell anyone but we’ve heard that Santa will even be surprising us with a visit!

Manitoba Electrical Museum Lights 

When: November 23rd - December 30th
Where: Downtown Winnipeg

Learn the story of hydroelectric development in Manitoba from 1870 to today. This unique museum guides visitors through the safe use of electricity and how electrical energy works. In addition, get into the holiday spirit by checking out the annual holiday lighting exhibit that showcase Christmas lights all the way back to the 1880s. WOW! Remember to tune in you radio to 107.5 once your within one blog of the museum. 

Christmas from Winnipeg to Ukraine

When:  December 7th
Where: Westminister United Church 

Many Winnipeg Ukrainians have maintained their national traditions, while also moving in hybrid directions. Our Christmas concert takes place one month before Ukrainian Christmas, but with many Ukrainian-Canadians celebrating Christmas on December 25th its timing is still pretty seasonal.

Canad Inns Winter Wonderland

When: December 2 - January 7
Where: Red River Exhibition Park

Canad Inns Winter Wonderland is Manitoba’s largest drive-thru light show and provides a brilliant presentation of over one million lights in 26 different theme areas. Travel the 2.5 kilometre route in the comfort of your own vehicle, tune your radio to the Park’s Christmas station and enjoy the views. Weather permitting, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, enjoy a complimentary sleigh ride! 

Noel a Saint-Boniface

When: November 26th
Where: Le Musee Saint-Boniface Museum

Come celebrate the holidays at the Saint-Boniface Museum! Visit the arts & craft sale, visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus, and enjoy the campfire.  Event price is by donation of a non-perishable food item or cash donation to Christmas Hampers which will be distributed in Saint-Boniface.

Royal Winnipeg Ballet Nutcracker

When:  December 22 -30 (several shows)
Where: Centennial Concert Hall

Performed by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, this sparkling holiday tradition is a festive feast for the senses with enchanting costumes, timeless choreography and a brilliant score by Tchaikovsky. Nutcracker features endearing Canadian scenes like a snowy pond hockey game and a battle on Parliament Hill. A holiday classic for the whole family!

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train

When:  December 2nd & 4th 
Where: Various Venues 

The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train programs returns for its 18th year to raise money, food and awareness for food banks and hunger issues across both Canada and the United States. Bring the whole family out the visit the 2 incredible decorated trains. These trains are about 1,000 long and have 14 rail cars decorated front to back in LED lights.

The event is free, but donations are encouraged. 

Linden Lights 

When:  December 
Where: Candy Cane Lane - Foxmeadow Drive & Polar Bear Lane -Hennessey Drive

Although "Linden Lights" isn't actually an event, there is no question the these two streets have some of the best Christmas decoration in all of Winnipeg. Make some hot chocolate to-go, heat up the car, and take hte whole family out for a drive. Besides gas and hot chocolate his outing is 100% and 100% fun!
