Christmas is approaching, and like Santa, there is a lot to do! But where are all the fun events? Here is our schedule:

Christmas is in the air, at least it’s feeling rather frosty! I just love this time of year though, all the pretty Christmas lights starting to make a presence, holiday drinks, and of course the children’s excitement! That’s why I’ve put together a list of some of the most wonderful kids Christmas Events in Halifax this year…

2016 Christmas Events in Halifax

An Old Fashioned Seaside Christmas

For over a quarter of a century, businesses along the Eastern Shore communities from Lawrencetown to Lake Charlotte have opened their doors for this shopping tour. Make a day of a weekend of it, allowing the numbered wreaths to guide you to unique local shops and restaurants.

Holiday Parade of Lights

Join the fun at the 20th Annual Chronicle Herald Holiday Parade with lights, music and entertainment…and a visit from Santa Claus! The parade will be broadcast live on Eastlink TV.

Don’t forget to bring a donation of non-perishable food or cash for FEED Nova Scotia, a new, unwrapped children’s toy for the C100/Cineplex Toy Drive, and your letter to Santa for Canada Post!

Downtown Halifax

Compass Group Canada Festival of Trees

Just Believe. Join the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia to kick off the holiday season in support of mental health programs and services in our province. Step in to a magical world straight out of the classic holiday film, the Polar Express!

The World Trade and Convention Centre

Victorian Christmas

A family tradition for 26 years! Kick off the season by sharing some holiday cheer with the 78th Highlanders. Make your way to the Halifax Citadel as the historic fort takes on a festive air with Victorian carols, crafts, games and, of course, Father Christmas. Enjoy some hot cider and don’t miss our Victorian photo booth – it’s the perfect way to capture some holiday magic to share with family and friends. There’s fun for all ages!

TD Dartmouth Christmas Tree Lighting

A free Christmas event for the whole family, featuring rides on the Kiwanis Santa Claud Express Trains, visits from local mascots, free samples, Santa, glow sticks, free hot chocolate, Christmas tree lighting and FIREWORKS! 

Dec. 3rd 
Sullivan's Pond, Dartmouth 

Old Fashioned Christmas

Make plans now to attend this years’ Sherbrooke Village Old Fashioned Christmas. The event will feature an opening night tree lighting, candle light procession, fireworks and karaoke. Saturday & Sunday there will be Christmas crafts, concert, festive dining, dinner theatre, Victorian tea and more! Sunday morning will be the 5K and 10K “Jingle Run” and in the afternoon there will be an Ecumenical Service. There’s something for everyone this Holiday Season so get your “Hands On History” while getting into the Holiday Spirit at Sherbrooke Village!

Christmas at the Barn

Come experience our annual Christmas at the Barn markets at the Hubbards Barn & Community Park. Fantastic local artisans and delicious local food will take care of your Christmas list. Then you can grab a coffee and enjoy some great local music.

The Nutcracker

Symphony Nova Scotia’s The Nutcracker has been Halifax’s favourite holiday tradition for 25 years! When a little girl’s toy comes to life, she’s whisked away to an enchanted world where she meets magical creatures, colourful new friends, and the ferocious Mouse Queen! Complete with larger-than-life puppets, spirited dancing, and Tchaikovsky’s hauntingly beautiful music, this tale of wonder and fantasy is a delightful seasonal treat for all ages. (multiple shows)

Charlie Brown Christmas with the Jerry Granelli Trio

Get ready to have a Charlie Brown style Christmas. Bring the whole family out to listen to the soundtrack performed by the Jerry Granelli Trio, including renowned jazz artists Simon Fisk on bass and Chris Gestrin on piano, backed by The Goulbourn Junior Jubilees.

Tales of a Charlie Brown Christmas

Experience the magic of the holiday season with timeless music that will warm your heart. Back by popular demand, the Halifax Jazz Festival presents Tales of A Charlie Brown Christmas featuring local jazz legend Jerry Granelli, an original and only surviving member of the Vince Guaraldi Trio. This special show will create memories that will last forever. (2 shows)

Dec. 6
Spatz Theatre

Max & Ruby in the Nutcracker Suite 

Give the little ones the perfect holiday warm-up. Max & Ruby in the Nutcracker Suite is a colourful and festive stage show the whole family can enjoy. Kids who love the Treehouse favourite will be amazed to see the beloved bunny siblings from television come to life, inspired by the classic Tchaikovsky score. Create a winter tradition!
