This holiday season there will literally be millions of twinkling lights hung all around Calgary so here’s a list to help you pick the very best displays!
Best Christmas Lights in Calgary
If house-touring for christmas lights Calgary is more your style, here's some AMAZING light displays happening in neighbourhoods. So much respect for people who put in all of the time, money, and effort to bring holiday cheer to the community.
55 Coventry Rd NE - ok this one is a must. Over 12,000 LED lights, 30 strobe lights, artches, shooting stars, lighted trees. Tune in to 99.9FM and see a show! 6-10 pm on weekdays, 6-11pm weekends, and starts December 5th - December 31st
3 Baker Cres NW - this house will brighten up your evening! Over 10,000 lights is sure to do that.
28 Street SW - watch the lights dance to music! Just press the button (how exciting would this be for your kidlets?!) Apparently this year if you press it twice, you get a surprise! Nov 21- Jan 2, 5-10:30pm on weekdays and 5pm-midnight on weekends.
76 Grafton Crescent SW - this is probably the biggest and brightest. 38,000 THOUSAND lights, with many fancy ones like arches, rotating stars, trees, and changing lights. Tune into 101.9FM for over 1 hour of songs. These people are my hero!
3 Auburn Bay Place SE - an animated light show with over 10,000 LED lights, tune in on 88.5FM! Show is every night 6-10pm
Lighten Up Calgary - this genius site called Lighten Up Calgary actually shows on a map who’s houses are the brightest this holiday season! You can use this to find more houses to check out on your self-tour and plan out your route.
Light Ups & Attractions
When: November 29 – January 8; 6pm-Midnight nightly
Okay green-queens this is your chance to enjoy a 98% green festival of lights in Calgary! This amazing Christmas lights show, along 14th St. NW, is created with over 100,000 LED light bulbs and draws over 50,000 visitors per DAY! It is a collaborative effort that draws upon many volunteers, organizations and sponsors as the event is free, which is pretty spectacular!
When: Saturday November 29th, 5pm-7pm
Take a little drive for this free family festival welcoming Christmas to beautiful Cochrane! Enjoy free hotdogs and hot beverages, hayrides, ice sculpting, hula hoopers, lighting of 30ft roof top Christmas tree, children's tent and shopping area, silent auction, pyro musical fireworks by Global Fest, and of course Santa.
When: December 1 – December 31; 6-9 pm nightly
Now in it’s 19th year, the Airdre Festival of lights is definitely one to add to you Christmas lights Calgary list! Located in Airdrie’s Nose Creek Park, the Airdrie Festival of Lights is a beautiful, outdoor walk-through light experience, with approx. a million dollars worth of displays and other special features. Treat yourself to hot choco, or a miniature train ride or just take it all in as you wander around with your family this holiday season. Also, within the Festival grounds there will be outdoor skating at the Nose Creek Pond, depending on ice thickness.
When: November 14- 30th. Fridays 10am- 8pm, Saturdays 10am- 7pm, and Sundays 10am- 5pm.
Spruce Meadows Christmas market is best known for being the best International Christmas Market in the city, with 270 vendors spreading the christmas spirit in indoor comfort…It also happens to be one of the best lights displays in Calgary, with 74 kilometres of Christmas lights strung all around the grounds, creating a true wonderland. Note: the courtyard, Candy Cane Lane, and Reindeer Alley open at 9:30am each day!
When: November 21 – January 3; 6-9 pm nightly
Calgary Zoolights is one of the best events of the holiday season, and this year its going to be extra special because the newly renovated facility will be opening their doors just in time! Truly a brilliant show, with over a million lights twinkling all over the zoo! Dress warmly, but there will be fire pits on route to warm your toes and hot chocolate too!
When: November 26-28th
- A Swinging Christmas- kick off the festival with the big band concert at 7:30pm on November 26th
- Santa Claus Parade- bigger and better this year! Starts at 5:35pm on November 27th
- Tree Lighting Ceremony- immediately after the parade, head to the Lacombe Memorial Centre to experience the new Christmas lights display! Begins at 6:30pm
- Largest Human Snowman- come make history at the MEGlobal Athletic Park! From 5pm-6pm on November 28th
- Lumenight- After the record attempt, head to Cranna Lake for tons of activities, and fireworks. From 6pm- 9pm.
When: Saturday December 6th; 1pm-9:30pm
If you really want a treat... the Winterstart Festival in Banff brings the long awaited Santa Claus Parade of Lights! It's a bit of a drive, but you could make a day trip out of it, or even overnight! There's a whole wack of fun activities lined up for the day. Between 1 and 4pm is festive fun with Santa, and wagon rides! The parade starts at 5:30pm along Banff Avenue, and to end the evening is Stuart McLean.
