Birthday parties certainly do not have to cost a lot in order to be special and successful. Here are some ideas for celebrating your child’s special day.
Inexpensive Kids Birthday Party Ideas Calgary
In the Summer take your kids to Sikome Lake – Sikome Lake is a man made lake located within the Fish Creek Provincial park. There are aquatic staff on duty so kids can play safe (with supervision of course). There are also playgrounds and sandy shores for kids to build sand castles in!
My youngest daughter always asks to have a pinata at her birthday party. We have made them ourselves out of balloons and paper-mache but this is quite a messy process and they can be tricky to hang. Inexpensive varieties are available at most dollar stores. Get your little one to help you choose his or her favorite one and then theme the party around the pinata. You can also play other fun games like pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey or hot potato!
In Winter make a day of tobogganing at one of the many Calgary city maintained tobogganing hills! Here’s a list of all the hills in and around Calgary.
My children went to one birthday party where they had the chance to decorate their own cupcakes. This was great fun as they were able to choose from different colors of icing and oodles of candy. I would recommend serving a super healthy meal before hand and do this activity towards the end of the party. Ask parents for forgiveness later!
Another favorite birthday activity seems to be the “sleep-over” – this may be free but might cost you a few hours of precious Zzzs! Depending on your child, you may want to rent a movie, make popcorn, paint toe nails, play a board game or something interactive like charades. Be sure to have a big bag of pancake mix on hand for hungry tummies in the morning.
