SANDALWOOD Martial ArtsSandalwood Martial Arts was established in 2001 and offers classes for ages nine and older. V R Karate  is one of the largest and best known karate clubs in the region, VR Karate offers co-ed classes from 4 years old to adult (our oldest member at 72 years old) at three different locations throughout Greater Victoria. Their main dojo is located at Saanich Commonwealth Place with a satellite club at Christ Church Cathedral School and one at Cordova Bay Elementary School. What sets VR Karate apart is their positive, friendly, and fun learning environment provided to students, no matter what background or learning ability.

Olsons Gym VictoriaOlson’s Gym  is primarily Boxing and Karate, but they also offer classes in Tae Kwon Do and Jiu Jitsu (taught by Dragon Martial Arts Victoria), Yoga Fusion, and Grappling. They teach the technical skills of each discipline and integrate a high-energy work out in every class. There is a great family dynamic and there are family rates available to help the whole crew enjoy their fitness classes. Sound interesting? Why not take them up on their free 1-week trial with no contracts.

Ueshiba Aikido  Aikido is a Japanese martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba in the 1920s, but officially recognized as Aikido in 1942. Victoria Professional Self DefenceVictoria Professional Self Defence begun in 1992, and specializes in Kenpo, Muay Thai, Submission Wresting, Ju-Jitsu, and Tai Chi. The unique difference about their studio is that they provides family oriented style dojo, and a family rate of all “train under the one membership fee.” The memberships include private lessons!

Fierce Martial ArtsFierce Martial Arts & Yoga Studio aspires to create a powerful community: rich in practice, tradition, fun, friendship and growth. The vision of Fierce Studio is one that cultivates good martial artists and yogis, but more importantly, great people. Their studio specializes in the martial art of Jui Jitzu. At Fierce, there are two curriculums for kid’s Jiu Jitsu: Little Dragon’s (ages 5-7) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (ages 8-13).

It was a pleasure to speak to each one of the studios and learn about the some of developmental and physical of martial arts for kids as well as the variety of martial arts classes available for kids throughout Victoria.
