5 Fun Activities for Your Kids and Your Dogs

Published Feb 20, 2020 | Updated Feb 24, 2020

Both dogs and kids need to be entertained in order for them to get out some of their energy and to stay out of trouble. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do with both of them at the same time without leaving the other one out. Here are five fun activities for your kids and dogs.

1. Play With A Frisbee

Both dogs and kids love frisbees. If you are looking for a way for your child to play with your dog, teach them how to toss a frisbee to him. Even young children can get in on the fun. Your child will become a master at throwing a frisbee in no time. Don’t worry about your child having to chase your dog down every time they want to get the frisbee back. Your dog will very quickly learn that they will need to bring it to your child when they want him or her to throw it again.

2. Visit A Park

If you are looking for a way to get some of the energy out that both your kids and dogs may have, then you really should visit a park. They can run around and play in the open space. Your child can go on swings or other playground equipment while you play fetch with your dog. Just make sure you check your local laws before you visit a park. Some cities will require that your dog is always on a leash. Even if that’s the case, your dog still can have fun playing at the park with your child. If you are worried that you won’t have your hands free to help your child if need be, you should purchase dog sport gear like a hands free dog leash. It will provide you with the peace of mind in knowing that your dog will be limited in how far he can go from you, but you won’t have to worry about holding onto their leash the whole time that you are at the park.

3. Go To The Beach Or Lake

Many dogs and kids love water. The next time it’s a hot day and you are looking for something to do, you should take both of them to a beach or lake. They can swim and splash around together. If your child is a little shy around the water, they may become a little bit braver as they see your dog have fun playing in the water. Just make sure that you pack plenty of extra towels with you. You may need more than one in order to dry your dog off thoroughly before getting in the car to go home.

4. Take A Walk

You don’t have to hop in your car to visit another destination in order to entertain your child and dog. You can simply take them on a walk. A few laps around the block will allow them the chance to get some fresh air and to spend time with one another. If your child is old enough, they can help hold the leash as well. Just make sure that you take a walk when it’s not too hot. You don’t want to risk either your child or dog getting too overheated. You also need to be mindful of the fact that the sidewalk can get very hot, and you don’t want your dog burning the pads of their feet on it. This is why it’s best to take your dog on a walk first thing in the morning before breakfast or when the sun is starting to go down after dinner.

5. Eat At An Outdoor Restaurant

We all know that kids and adults love to eat! This is why taking them to eat at an outdoor restaurant may become one of their favorite activities. If you do a quick online search for your area, you will probably find several restaurants that are dog-friendly.

In conclusion, there are plenty of activities that you can do with both your kids and your dogs. By trying some of the activities mentioned above, you can help them bond with one another, and you can keep them entertained. These times together will be something that you cherish for years to come.
