Published Sep 12, 2019 | Updated Feb 19, 2020

All you need to know for awesome family events this October! From Diwali Fest to riding the Ghost Train here are the best things to do this month.

Fall is in full swing! Something about the crisp air and the orange and red leaves makes me feel so cozy. There is lots to do in our city this month as well!

Here we highlight the major annual events, but you can also visit our full calendar of events for a snapshot of everything that's happening around Vancouver and the surrounding areas.

Here's some of our favourite events and happenings in October:

1. Observing the Night Sky: Family Night

Looking through a telescope can lead to amazing discoveries; seeing the rings of Saturn or Jupiter’s moons can leave a lasting impression no matter what your age. Join in for a special family event all about observing the night sky. Learn how telescopes work, enjoy live demonstrations, a show in the planetarium star theatre, make some fun astronomy crafts and take a look at the night sky through the telescope (weather permitting).

3. West Van PumpkinFest

Come and celebrate the harvest season at PumpkinFest, an old-fashioned, community-style day with family-friendly activities.

On average over 5,000 people come together each year at the West Vancouver Community Centre to enjoy farm animals, old-fashioned games, artisan market, home and harvest competition, watch police and firemen demonstrations, participate in free swimming, gymnastics and skating, enjoy local food vendors and listen to fantastic local talent.
